Good afternoon and welcome to the Irvine Meadow XI FC management, players,
committee and supporters to Townhead Park for today’s West Region Super Premiership
league game.
Over the past calendar year, Medda have been the league form team who have been on
an excellent run of form - Brian McGinty and Stevie Aitchison deserve enormous credit for
turning Medda into a formidable team who are in the running for all trophies at this stage
of the season. They have built a strong powerful team with a good mix of experienced
seasoned juniors and up and coming talented players in their ranks .
Gints is a person and manager I have a lot of respect for and always enjoy our games
against each other. He always sets his team up to play football in the right way but mindful
of the defensive side of the game too. His teams are always powerful and well organised
too.
Experienced players who are vital for Medda such as captain Ben Carson, Mark
McLennan, CB Callum Gow, midfielder Colin Spence and striker Eddie McTernan form a
very strong spine which shows the quality in their ranks which we will need to be very
mindful of.
Welcome to Townhead Park

In our last performance against Hurlford, I was very pleased with a positive and very
encouraging team performance that day, against a strong and formidable team in their
home ground. We matched their physicality, took the game to them from the off and we
were very unlucky not to come away with all 3 points. I thought we competed very strongly
and had good shape and discipline throughout the game. We got Greg Ferry sent off in the
last 15 minutes for nothing more than a strong challenge on their wide player which didn’t
even merit a free kick never mind a sending off! I was delighted with the team and in
particular thought new GK Kieran Hughes had a brilliant debut, as well as young players
Ruaridh McIntyre and Jamie Conn who both excelled in the game - my players could be
very pleased and proud of their performance which, on another day, could’ve merited a
deserved 3 points at a hard venue.
In terms of personnel changes at the club, outgoing from the club is striker Iain Anderson. I
want to thank Iain for his service and wish him every success at his new club.
In the background, Mark and I will continually work diligently to look to bring more quality
players to the club.
Finally, although we won a great away point last time out, it is imperative we try and build
on this momentum to win as many points between now and the end of the season.
For Cumnock to improve and progress as a club, we need everyone to back the team and
support the players.
Enjoy the game #ATNTony

Hurlford 0 – 0 CumnockCumnock entered the final third of their league season with a difficult away fixtureagainst Hurlford. Nock gaffer Tony McInally had to shuffle his pack with influentialcentral defender Andy Dowie, in form right back Nathan Baird and keeper Ally Sempleall unavailable. McInally handed a debut to new keeper Kieran Hughes. Hughes joinedthe club on Thursday from Kilbirnie. McInally also welcomed back Paul Burns to theheart of the midfield after missing the last few games through injury. Filling in at rightback was the returning Steven Crawford. In cold and blustery conditions Cumnockmade the early running on the tricky Blair Park surface. Ryan Caddis saw a good effortsmartly saved by ‘Ford keeper McDonald. Former Hurlford striker Caddis was causingthe home defence problems and had a couple of efforts fly just wide. Hurlford’s MarcMcKenzie was their main threat having efforts saved by Hughes. McKenzie also saw anacrobatic scissors kick miss the target but only by inches. Cumnock may well have felta bit frustrated not to go in ahead at the interval. Their best chance came just beforehalftime after excellent work by Jamie Conn who squared into the box. Caddisdummied for Craig McLeish but instead of shooting himself McLeish teed up Burns buthis snapshot flew wide of McDonald’s right hand post.
Half time: 0 - 0
Hurlford came out the traps quickly in the second half and took the game toCumnock. Most of the play was in the Cumnock half but the Nock defence wasstanding firm. Young Ruaridh McIntyre was having a fine game in the heart ofCumnock’s defence and him and Alan Murdoch repelled Hurlford’s attacks time aftertime. Marc McKenzie again was the dangerman for Hurlford and he saw an effortbrilliantly tipped over the bar by Hughes after a deflection by StevenCrawford. Cumnock were dealt a hammer blow on 70 minutes when Greg Ferryreceived a straight red card from ref Chris Gentles for a tackle on McKenzie. The onlyother effort on goal came from ‘Ford keeper McDonald when his clearance hit the onlyhard part of the pitch, bounced over Hughes’ head and incredibly shaved the post. Allin all a draw was a fair result.

Irvine Meadow – Interesting Fact
Irvine Meadow won two different cups on the same day in two separate towns against two separate teams.
In season 1932-33 on June 3rd (3pm) Meadow beat Ardeer Recreation 3-0 in the Irvine & District Cup final replay at Victoria
Park, Saltcoats.
At 6:30pm, less than two hours after this game finished, Meadow beat Irvine Victoria 3-2 in the Ayrshire Consolation Cup final replay at Abbey Park, Kilwinning. Meadow had a fairly large squad but the
same eleven turned out in both games.
Cumnock and Irivne Meadow met in the semi-final of the Ayrshire League Cup in the 1970/1971 season. The Cumnock Chronicle summed it all up………
