WHAT’S HAPPENING IN FAIRPLAY IN 2017
Planning of the River Park Area will start in 2017! In 2016, the Town purchased the last
piece of privately owned land along the Middle Fork of the South Platte River as it runs
through Town towards Hwy. 285. The Town now holds the deed on over one mile of river
and encompassing 100 acres of open space right in the heart of Fairplay! If you are inter-
ested in participating in the planning process, please watch our website and the newsletter
that comes in your monthly utility bill for more information and meeting dates.
Repairs of the Beach Road, the dredging of the Beach reservoir, and repairing the dam at
the water plant continue to be a high priority. We are still working with FEMA to fund
these repairs and hope that we can finish the projects this year. These damages are a result
of flooding that occurred in June of 2015.
We continue to focus on the streets in Fairplay and have started working with an engineer-
ing firm on a Streets Improvement Plan. We have funds budgeted to complete the 8th
Street Drainage project and for a paving project in 2017. The paving project location will
be determined in the Streets Improvement Plan.
We have many small projects planned for 2017 including ADA upgrades at Cohen Park,
continued improvements at the ballfields, remodeling the Police Department, and Town
Hall exterior improvements.
MEDICAL CLINIC UPDATE
The Summit Community Care Clinic was recently notified that they were not awarded the
grant for a Federally Qualified Health Center in Fairplay. The grant was submitted in July
of 2016 to the federal government. There were over 400 applicants competing for 75 na-
tional awards. The majority of awards were given to midwest and southern states and
none were awarded in Colorado. Summit Community Care Clinic is still committed to
collaborating with Park County leaders to continue to explore solutions to meet the health
care needs of the county’s citizens.
Several meetings have taken place recently and all ideas and options are being explored.
In a recent meeting with Lt. Governor Donna Lynne, the Town Board discussed the health
care crisis facing South Park. The Mayor and Trustees continue to view bringing quality
health care to Fairplay as one of their highest priorities.

Cold Weather Water Tips—February tends to be one of the
coldest months of the year in Fairplay. Our Water Department
would like to offer a few tips to insure your winter is hassle-
free. If you have questions please contact Public Works at 719-
836-2622, ext. 105.
If you have heat tape on your home to prevent frozen wa-
ter pipes, make sure it is plugged in!
Use preventative measures to stop frozen pipes such as
leaving a cabinet under a sink open on frigid nights.
If you are leaving your home for an extended amount of
time and feel you need to turn your water off, please con-
tact our Public Works department so we can turn off the
curb stop water valve at the street. This will prevent flood-
ing in the event a pipe freezes and bursts.
If you hear water running anywhere around your home or
a neighbor’s home and it’s not obvious where it’s coming
from, please contact Public Works.

Thanks to all of the community that came out to enjoy the Real Colorado Christmas celebration, Holiday Victorian Tea and the Victorian and
Cowboy Ball this year. We had great attendance and appreciate your support in helping us to end 2016 on a high note!

Another exciting announcement is that we are adding a “Vintage Market” to Burro Days this year along with all the great vendors we usually
have. The “Vintage Market” vendors will be located in one specific area on the lawn at the Old Courthouse. Be on the lookout for more infor-
mation on this great addition to Burro Days and if you are or know of a “Vintage Market” vendor please have them contact
In August, we are giving the Fairplay Bead and Fiber Show a fresh look by inviting more artists with handmade wearable art. We would love
for you to experience this fresh new event by enjoying the shopping experience and taking advantage of the demos and classes that will be
offered. You can learn how to make your own “wearable art!” In fact, we have even given the event a new name, Fairplay’s Wearable Art
Fest! Mark August 12-13 on your calendar so you don’t miss a thing. Be on the look out for more information at our website
fairplaywearableartfest.com.

GET TO KNOW……...
REBECCA BRAMLETT
Police Officer, Fairplay Police Department
Becky grew up in Golden, Colorado where her family has been for five generations. She
grew up riding horses in a pasture where Colorado Mills Mall currently sits. She has
worked for the Town for over a year and a half and previously worked as an Animal
Control Officer for the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
What do you enjoy most about your position? I really enjoy working in this com-
munity. I have lived here for nine years and I love the people here. In my job I get to
interact with the whole Town and I enjoy getting to know our residents.
What project or undertaking are you most proud of and why? The project(s) that I
am most proud of would be the grant programs I have worked on for the Police Department. I work on the annual Peace Officer Standards
and Training (Post) Grant. This grant funds a lot of the training and equipment used to keep our officers fully trained. I have also worked to
get grant money to put our officers on the streets patrolling for DUI’s. It is a passion of mine to keep drunk drivers off of our streets.
What book are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it and why? I LOVE to read. I am cur rently reading, “The Woman Lit By
Fireflies,” which is a book of short stories by Jim Harrison. I am enjoying this book because the first story takes place in the Upper Peninsula
of Michigan where I like to spend my vacation time.
What is the strangest or funniest request you have ever received while working for the Town? Being a small town, I get a lot of re-
quests for pictures with people. This happens frequently during Town events and parades, but also when I do business checks in bars and
restaurants.
We thank you for your service to our Town and our Community Becky!

additional seating to accommodate visitors on Front and
Main Streets, we are researching the possibility of a Bench
Program. We are hoping to team up with local merchants,
organizations and residents that would like to help make this

released in your monthly water/sewer bills when finalized.

ing for volunteers that can help with events and work at our

mation with visitors. A volunteer application can be found
on our website, fairplayco.us, under documents and forms or
