Sinopsi Johnny Depp interpreta el Capeller Boig i Mia Wasikowska és una Alícia de 19 anys que torna al món màgic, on es va endinsar sent una nena, per reunir-se amb els seus antics amics: el Conill Blanc, Tweedledee i Tweedledum, l’Eruga, el Gat de Cheshire i, per descomptat, el Capeller Boig. Alicia s'embarca en un viatge fantàstic per trobar el seu veritable destí i posar fi al regnat de terror de la Reina Roja.

Activity 1. The plot of the film
19-year-old Alice goes/arrives to a party at Lord Ascot’s house where she receives a marriage proposal.
There she will return/visit to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she will reunite with her old friends and lose/find her true destiny: to end the Red Queen’s reign of terror.
When Alice falls down a rabbit-hole that hot summer’s afternoon in pursuit of a White Rabbit she finds/looks herself in Wonderland.
Wonderland is no ordinary place and the characters that live/stay there are quite different from the creatures that young Alice has ever met before.
Read the plot of the film and choose the correct option of the verbs in the text.

This is the start of her fantastic adventures that will make her experience/explain extraordinary changes in size, swimming in a pool of her own tears and attending the very maddest of tea parties, hosted by the Mad Hatter, who will write/share Alice’s adventures.
In this imaginary land she calls/encounters the violent Red Queen and her sister, the White Queen, the mischievous Cheshire Cat and Solomon, the Caterpillar, each as surprising and eccentric as the next.
Will Alice be able to go/live back to her normal life again? Close your eyes, fall/climb down the rabbit hole and get ready to enjoy the adventure of your life.

Activity 5. A drink called tea
What is tea? Tea comes from the dry leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. This plant grows in high places with hot weather and a lot of rain. There are three types of tea: black, green and oolong. Where does tea come from? Most tea comes from India, China and Sri Lanka. But some comes from Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and South America. Today tea grows in about forty countries. Tea around the world The British like drinking tea. In the afternoon they sometimes have cakes and sandwiches with it. This is called Afternoon Tea and it means both the drink and the food. Some big hotels have got tea rooms where people go to talk and enjoy a cup of tea. You can also get afternoon tea in most cafés. The Japanese have a tea ceremony called Chanoyu. They drink their tea in a special teahouse. Everything is important in this ceremony: the tea, the teapot, the cups and the teaspoons. In North Africa and the Middle East people drink strong, hot tea in small glasses with sugar. In some countries of North Africa people drink green tea and mint. It is a good drink in hot weather. In Turkey people drink tea in special glasses with cubes of sugar. They drink more tea in Turkey than in any other country! Russian people use a samovar to make tea. A samovar has got a lot of hot water so the Russians can drink tea all day. You can drink tea hot or cold, with milk or with lemon. A lot of doctors say tea is good for you.

Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll*, famós per la seva obra Alícia al país de les meravelles, és el pseudònim pel que és conegut en la història de la literatura Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Daresbury, Cheshire, 1832 - Guildford, Surrey, 1898), sacerdot anglicà, matemàtic, fotògraf i escriptor britànic. Els avantpassats de Dodgson procedien principalment del nord d'Anglaterra i la majoria dels homes de la família es van dedicar a l'exèrcit i a l'església: un dels seus besavis va ser bisbe i un dels seus avis va ser capità de l'exèrcit. El pare de Lewis Carroll (també anomenat Charles) va estudiar a Westminster School i després al Christ Church d’Oxford. Tenia grans dots per a les matemàtiques, però va preferir casar-se amb la seva cosina i exercir com a sacerdot rural. El seu fill Charles va néixer a la petita parròquia de Daresbury, al comtat de Cheshire, al nord-oest d’Anglaterra. Era el tercer fill del matrimoni Dodgson i el primer noi. Després naixerien vuit fills més. Quan Charles tenia onze anys, el seu pare va ser nomenat mossèn de Croft-on-Tees, al comtat de North Yorkshire, on la família passaria els següents 25 anys. Des de molt petit, el jove Charles va demostrar una gran capacitat intel·lectual, però el seu tartamudeig el va afectar en les seves relacions socials durant tota la vida. Als dotze anys va ser enviat a una escola de Richmond i l'any 1845 es va traslladar a Rugby School on no va ser molt feliç, segons ell mateix va escriure anys després. Quan va abandonar Rugby School es va traslladar a la Universitat d'Oxford, on va ingressar a Christ Church, l'antiga escola del seu pare. Aquí va exercir com a professor de matemàtiques durant els 26 anys següents (encara que no sembla haver gaudit especialment de la seva activitat). Quatre anys després va ser ordenat diaca (càrrec eclesiàstic). A Oxford se li va diagnosticar epilèpsia, la qual cosa constituïa en aquells temps un estigma social considerable. L'any 1856, Dodgson va descobrir les possibilitats de la fotografia i aviat va aconseguir destacar en aquest art, on va intentar plasmar els seus ideals de llibertat i bellesa. Es calcula que va realitzar unes 3.000 fotografies, de les quals només es conserven la tercera part.

Dodgson també va escriure poesia i contes. La major part d'aquests escrits són humorístics, i de vegades satírics. L'any 1856 va publicar la seva primera obra amb el pseudònim de Lewis Carroll: el poema romàntic Solitude, que va aparèixer a la revista The Train. Aquest mateix any, 1856, un nou arxiprest, Henry Liddell, va arribar a Christ Church amb la seva esposa i les seves tres filles (Lorina, Alice i Edith), amb les quals Dodgson va entaular una gran amistat. Va ser en una excursió amb les noies el juliol de 1862, quan Dodgson va inventar l'argument de la història que després arribaria a ser el seu més gran èxit comercial. Segons els relats del mateix Dodgson, del seu acompanyant el reverend Duckworth, i d'Alice Liddell, l'autor va improvisar la narració que va entusiasmar a les noies, especialment a l’Alice. Després de l'excursió, l’Alice li va demanar que escrigués la història. Dodgson va passar tota una nit component el manuscrit i el va regalar a l’Alice Liddell el Nadal següent. El manuscrit es titulava Les aventures d'Alícia sota terra (Alice's Adventures Under Ground), i estava il·lustrat amb dibuixos del propi autor. Després de dubtar entre diferents títols, l'obra es va publicar finalment l'any 1865 com Les aventures d'Alícia al país de les meravelles (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland), firmada per Lewis Carroll. Les il·lustracions d'aquesta primera edició van ser obra de Sir John Tenniel. El gran èxit del llibre va portar el seu autor a escriure i publicar una segona part, Alícia a través del mirall (Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There). Posteriorment, Carroll va publicar el seu gran poema paròdic La caça del Snark (The Hunting of the Snark), l'any 1876; i els dos volums de la seva última obra, Silvia i Bruno, el 1889 i el 1893, respectivament.També va publicar amb el seu nom real molts articles i llibres de matemàtica, entre els quals destaquen El joc de la Lògica i Euclides i els seus rivals moderns.
*Charles Lutwidge Dodgson va crear el pseudònim de Lewis Carroll a partir de la llatinització del seu nom i el cognom de la seva mare, Charles Lutwidge. Lutwidge va ser llatinitzat com Ludovicus, i Charles com Carolus.
