Carbon reduCtion Commitment – energy effiCienCy sCheme

following the government’s recent Comprehensive spending review, changes to the CrC scheme have been put into effect. Whilst this has relieved many landlords and occupiers of their immediate responsibilities, there are still some ramifications and key points that need to be addressed. Cushman & Wakefield and the BRE (Building research establishment) have come together to provide a unique combination of expertise to help you prepare for the scheme.

Corporate strategies and adViCe

We advise corporate occupiers on developing and implementing sustainable real estate strategies that enable companies to realise the cost benefits of sustainability, whilst supporting their own green agendas.

in addition we ensure that sustainability considerations and metrics are incorporated in all standard processes and documents, e.g. site selection and assessment.

inVestment

there exists a fundamental link between sustainability and the bottom line performance of investment assets. Risk factors such as exposure to flooding could adversely affect property values, but sustainability also brings opportunities to help achieve commercial objectives by, for example, boosting revenue returns through capitalising on renewable incentives, reducing energy consumption and thus service charges, or improving marketability through stronger sustainability credentials.

our focus is around three key areas of development planning:

environmental impact assessment (eia)We provide a comprehensive range of eia services, from specialist advice and support on the commercial aspects, to the production of a full eia and preparation of an Environmental Statement (ES).

sustainability strategies and target setting for new developmentdemonstrating the sustainability and energy credentials of development proposals – a key requirement for every planning application.

building accreditations and design/feasibility adviceas breeaM assessors, we have a strong track record of delivering the required level of performance whilst ensuring the commercial objectives and aspirations of the project are met.

asset management

We offer a wide range of property specific and portfolio wide services and advice to help clients manage their impacts and carbon footprints.

in June 2010 we registered every one of our managed properties with breeaM in-use, this was an industry first. We chose BREEAM as they are the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings and we now use this to monitor and drive each assets performance. to aid and support this move we are currently installing aMrs across our entire managed portfolio.

our oWn business

our sustainability policy is to lead by example. in the uK we have introduced breeaM in-use ratings to all our occupied properties and all buildings have, or plan to have, a metered system to provide exact energy use meters.

in the us we have entered into a Memorandum of understanding with the environmental protection Agency. C&W is the first real estate company to do so with the aim of addressing environmental issues in our industry.
