The existing mortuary in a 1950s building did not have any private space for visitors to mourn in after viewing a body. Hence an extension to the public entrance was proposed. My original design concept was a rectilinear form that takes its proportions from adjacent buildings. Corten steel cladding as a poetic interpretation of the passage of time. Also, glazing gives a separation from the existing building and views to the surrounding garden. A complete refurbishment to interior includes a new post-mortem room and state of the art equipment. And the rear service entrance required redesign to ensure privacy and structural support of the new plant services on the roof.

Other responsibilities: designing with Director, consulting with (Conservation) Planners; production of drawings, supervising

and authorities.

Cost: £1.3m Dates: 2013. GIA: 501sq m.

ENVIRONMENT &

In response to the environmental cycling movement in the city of Halifax I designed the Cyclists Building. This building has social, seminar, recreational and storage facilities which are tailored to the needs of commuter cyclists and educating the public on environmental action.

It has a monumental ramp which cyclists ride up to the second

campus which provides convenient access for the community
