Since we last met… TLA Curriculum Coordinators convened March
27 to draft a definition of District Benchmark Assessment (DBA) and inform future plans
Principals were brought “up to speed” and provided input on March 28
TLA Curriculum Coordinators met again on April 3, utilizing principal feedback to revise the DBA definition and revisit parameters/framework
The work continues to define specific windows and to develop test blueprints that meet our stated parameters
Principal PLT Artifact 1: Up to Speed!
Lap 1: DAD:PMI representatives’ email communication/process for feedback plus Background/Talking Points
Lap 2: Guiding Principles/Roles & Responsibilities
Lap 3: Components and Timeline of State Assessment Changes (MSIP 5, NCLB Waiver Request, Smarter Balanced)
Lap 4: Three-Year Draft Plan
Principal PLT Artifact 2: Around we go!
Carousel Station 1: Input regarding definition of district benchmark assessment
Carousel Station 2: How frequent ly should DBAs be administered (number of times per year/when)? Rationale?
Carousel Station 3: Approximately what duration (amount of instructional time per assessment) would be recommended? Rationale?
Carousel Station 4: Should DBAs be considered within a student’s grade? Rationale?
Carousel Station 5: What are your recommendations regarding “phase in”/change of new DBAs?
Carousel Station 6: What process should we use to handle future changes, particularly as we are impacted by state initiatives?
Principal PLT Artifact 3: Meal Ticket
On a notecard, please write the following:
Elementary Middle School High School
The three MOST IMPORTANT things for TLA to consider regarding district benchmark assessments ARE:1. _________2. _________3. _________
Let’s process all of this…
R & R: Draft 3-Year Plan Label two sides of a notecard:
Side 1: I Remember Side 2: I Realize
Before looking at the plan again, jot down at least three things you remember about it
Now look at the plan again! Verify what you remember as correct (make changes if
not) Jot down key “realizations” (items you had forgotten, key
points for stakeholders, new learning) Give one, get one
Find a partner in the room, share one realization—trade cards
Second partner, same thing
Head and Shoulders: Principal Feedback
Review and process (in your head) the compiled feedback.
Highlight/make notes regarding key points
Turn to a shoulder partner
Share 1-2 “findings” from your reading
Bringing the NBA to DBAPart 1: Read through the revised DBA definition and parameters (top of page), as well as the implementation proposal (bottom of page) Mark what you read with one of three letters: N, B, or
A: N = Something you NOTICE B = Something you’d like to see made BETTER (please
add your suggestion) A = Something you’d like to ASK
Part 2: Shoot Around In a team of 3-4, “shoot around” the group sothat each person can comment Keep a master copy of key items to share whole group
TM
Still to come… Using your feedback today, today’s
documents will be revisited and revised Specific testing windows (by level) will be
distributed by end of day Wednesday, April 11 Continue to collect feedback at your
building and record on the GoogleDoc, as this is valuable input that will also be used to make changes
Input window extended to April 25 All updated/new documents (including the
testing windows) will be posted to the Assessment website
