onHistory of Saint John’s Parish:St. John the Evangelist parish (St. John’s) was established on November 1, 1945 and is part of the Boston Archdiocese. The first pastor was Rev. Percival J. Quill, from 1945 to 1946. Rev. Shawn W. Allen has been with us since 2006 and is the 16th Pastor at St. John’s. The Parish officially serves the Massachusetts towns of Townsend and Ashby, but wel-comes families from nearby Pepperell, Massachusetts and Brookline, New Hampshire.

One of the hallmarks of St. John’s is that everyone is accepted and loved. Children, teens, young adults, and older adults all bring special qualities that help comprise our ‘par-ish family.’ Our parish community comprises various committees and ministries. Every parish member is invited and encouraged to become part of one or more of them; we need you!

The Parish CouncilSt. John’s Parish Council is an active and vibrant body of parishioners fully integrated with the parish staff to provide leadership and direction to our parish. The role of the Council is to think about the here and now while also considering future implications sur-rounding facility needs and the overall enrichment of the parish community. Being part of this body of concerned and dedicated parishioners can be a very satisfying and fulfill-ing experience and we welcome your participation!

Our Mission:The mission of St. John the Evangelist Parish is to serve Ashby and Townsend, embrac-ing both members and non-members.

We are a multi-generational, faith-filled community guided by the Holy Spirit. We bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to our communities through worship, religious education, prayer, and works of charity.

The parish community is an ever-changing entity. Population growth and demographic changes must be considered as we evolve our mission as a parish. Most evidently, we see a greater need for participation. The role of the pastor is to inspire, encourage, and support responsible laity in the leadership of the parish. The formation of our very suc-cessful Committees and Ministries is evidence of our excellent leadership, and we need that to continue.

Overall, the Mission of St. John’s is to become an informed, faith-inspired laity guided by a caring priest/shepherd who knows and loves his people while wishing for them to know and love him. All are baptized in and are inspired by the same Holy Spirit who enriches us and lifts our woundedness to the Father.
