Taking a Close Look When you think about your campus,

what do you think of instantly? When you think of instruction what

pictures do you see in your head? When you think of your best teachers

what do they look like in the classroom? When you think about engaged and

happy students where are they in your building?

What We Found… Lack of structures…no plan for how to

do things Whole group, lots and lots of whole

group one size fits all Our best were active, engaged and

excited about what they were teaching In a handful of classrooms

Major Problems… Call for Big Changes

This was our focus…our school is like every other campus with many challenges, but we are like all of you…we want what is best for students! This is what we did…

The Big Changes… Sound First Teach Professional Learning Communities Learning Pods Enrichment Focus on Science School wide implementation of SIP

strategies Focus on Character

Discipline Results Reduction of referrals More time spent on task More opportunities for students to

engage with one another More time for other types of activities A focus on learning instead of discipline Clear expectations for all

What Happens on Your Campus? Think about how your teachers normally

respond to students that act out? Do the teachers in your building all have

similar expectations for student behavior?

Do teachers have the same expectations for all of their students?

When it does not go right…Things to considerTime of dayLocation: structured vs. unstructuredWho was teaching Activity going on Who is aroundWere there triggersHow the teacher responded

Ideas for the Issues Know your students and their
