DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2017 (PAGE 7) SHO, 4 cops among dozen injured in clash Excelsior Correspondent POONCH, Dec 20: Five Police personnel including Station House Officer Gursai and about half a dozen other vil- lagers were injured during clash at village Ari in Mendhar Sub Division of district Poonch this evening. Official sources said that clash took place at around 7 pm when police party from Gursai along with Naib Tehsildar (Magistrate) had gone to shift the drilling machine mounted on vehicle from Jattan Mohalla in Ari to some other location on the directions of the Sub Divisional Magistrate Mendhar. This machine had been held in the captivity by the locals of the area demanding that water hand pump should also be installed in their locality. They were not allowing the PHE Drilling Division to shift the machine for the last 25 days. When the police team led by SHO Sanjay Gupta along with Magistrate arrived there at the village and tried to shift the machine, the villagers went vio- lent and resorted to stone pelting on police party. The police lobbed 5-6 tear gas shells and also resorted to lathi-charge on them. During clash, SHO and four other cops were injured while about half a dozen villagers including two women also sus- tained injuries. The police failed to shift the machine from there. Village Numberdar, Abdul Aziz said that they had been assured by the MLA to install hand pump in their locality. One had already been installed in the nearby locality. They wanted to complete drilling work first in their area before shifting it to some where else. He said that police tried to shifted it during night giving slip to the locals. He alleged that police beaten up the villagers with lathis and also fired tear gas shells on them. Two girls and 4-5 five other villagers were injured in police action, he added. The SDPO, Riaz Tantray said that villagers attacked police party when drilling machine was being shifted from Mohalla Jattan in Ari. He said the villagers had kept the machine in illegal custody. The department sought police help and on the directions of District Administration the police was assisting the shifting operation. He claimed that SHO Gursai, Insp Sanjay Gupta, con- stables -Maqsood Ahmed, Mohd Nasir, Zaheer Khan and Imtiaz Ahmed were injured in stone pelt- ing. He said the police will take action against the attackers. A three-storey building in flames in Thannamandi area of Rajouri on Wednesday. -Excelsior/Bhat 3-storey house gutted, people protest Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Dec 20: A three storey building was completely gutted in Thannamandi area of district Rajouri today. Official sources said that mishap took place in the joint house of three brothers, Mohd Khursheed, Mohd Fareed and Mohd Shabir-all sons of Mohd Akhtar, residents of Azmatabad village. The LPG cylinder in the kitchen was leaked and it caught fire. Then it got exploded and the flames engulfed the whole build- ing within minutes. The family members rushed out for the safety but one boy Mohd Azhar got trapped inside. He was later rescued by the peo- ple. He received multiple injuries and was rushed to Thannamandi hospital and then to District Hospital, Rajouri. It was around 11.20 am when the mishap took place. The locals rushed to the spot and later Police party led by SDPO Iftikhar Choudhary, SHO and Tehsildar Shahid Iqbal also reached. The people started pouring water on the burning building but they failed to contain fire. The Fire tender from Rajouri arrived at around 1.30 pm. The building had been completely gutted by then. The loss of prop- erty was being assessed but the family claimed that it would be around Rs 50 lakh. Entire prop- erty was gutted in the mishap. The relatives of the victims, people of the area then held strong protest at Thannamandi against Fire Services authorities for arriving late. The people also raised slogans against District Administration and demanded that Fire Station be set up at Thannamnandi. They claimed that this Sub Division urgently needs Fire Station because in most of the houses here more than 50% dry timber is used. Later, with the intervention of SDPO and Tehsildar the protest was suspended and the blocked road was restored. Meanwhile, the District Administration has provided cash assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh to the fire victim families besides some ration, ten blankets, plastic sheets and other eatables. Andrabi visits various shrines, inspects development works Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 20: Minister of State for Hajj and Auqaf, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Power, Industries and Commerce, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi today visited various shrines in and around Jammu city and took stock of the developmental works and other facilities available for the visiting devotees. These shrines included Ziarat Peer Baba Panjpeer Manda, Hazrat Baba Sharaf ud- Din at Tawi bridge and Hazrat Peer Baba Roshan Shah Wali (RA) Gumat. The Minister was apprised about the facilities being put in place for the visiting devotees and new infrastructural facilities being developed by the department. He directed for immediate replacement of damaged lights with LED lights and installation of stabilizer at Ziarat Peer Baba Panjpeer Manda to ensure unin- terrupted power supply to the shrine. He also instructed for immediate renovation of path- way in the premises and main- taining cleanliness in and around the shrine. The Minister asked the caretakers to take proper care of the Auqaf properties. At Ziarat Baba Sharaf ud- Din, the Minister asked for immediate repairs and face-lift- ing of the shrine. During his visit to Hazrat Peer Baba Roshan Shah Wali (RA) at Gumat, the Minister was apprised about the facilities available for the devotees. Andrabi also paid obeisance at these shrines and prayed for peace, prosperity and welfare of the State. Ramban landslide victim succumbs Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 20: A man, who was injured in landslide at Ramban on December 3, suc- cumbed to his injuries today here at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu. According to a police offi- cial, Vidya Ram (30) son of Abhi Lal, resident of Chanderkote, had received seri- ous injuries in a landslide occurred on December 3 in Ramban district. He said that the victim was taken to a Ramban hospital for treatment from where he was referred to GMCH Jammu on December 13 in view of his serious condition. “Today at about 6.15 pm, the man succumbed to his injuries”, he said, adding, body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital while the concerned police had taken cognizance. DB dismisses criminal acquittal appeal, acquits 6 Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 20: Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar has dismissed the criminal acquittal appeal filed by the State against the judgment delivered by the Sessions Judge, Udhampur whereby all the six accused were acquitted in a murder case. After hearing Government Advocate Ahatsham Bhat appearing for the State and Advocate Rahul Raina appear- ing for the six accused, the DB observed, "after examining the totality of circumstances and considering the arguments advanced by the counsel for the parties and also upon going through the evidence in detail, we are of the view that there is no cause for interfering with the judgment of acquittal rendered by the Trial Court”. “No perversity has been pointed out in the manner of appreciation of evidence by the Sessions Court. It is also not the case that any relevant evidence has been ignored by the Trial Court", the DB said while dis- missing the appeal. Speaker launches work on Water Supply Scheme Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 20: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today launched works for improvement of Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Rajeev Nagar, here today. Under the improve- ment works, 450 m pipelines will be laid at an estimated cost of Rs 2.84 lakh. Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said that steps are underway to provide basic facil- ities including water, power sup- ply and proper roads. He informed that out of the total road span of 842 km in the Gandhi Nagar constituency, construction/upgradation works for about 600 km roads have been completed with special focus on quality of the works. He also informed that two projects, each worth Rs 18 crore, have been sanctioned by the Central Government for Batala and Bathindi areas to augment the water supply in the area. Kavinder Gupta said that the demands of the people including improvement of drainage sys- tems, adequate water supply, construction of graveyard, sani- tation, construction of nallahs for flood water drainage are being taken up on priority. He said that with the launch- ing of works for improvement in WSS Rajeev Nagar, the problem of water supply shortage will be resolved. Besides, the works for graveyard are in pipeline and will be initiated in the coming days. He informed that JMC has been directed to take intensive drive to clean drains, remove blockages in the area, besides maintaining adequate sanitation, regular lifting of garbage and removal of solid waste from drains. He further said that a project for construction of nallahs to augment the flood water drainage network has been sanc- tioned and will be initiated at the earliest, so that people of the area do not suffer due to season- al flooding. DDC Kupwara reviews status of development works Excelsior Correspondent KUPWARA, Dec 20: District Development Commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jahangir today paid an extensive tour to various areas in Handwara and Langate to review the status of on-going developmental works, undertak- en as the Chief Minister commit- ments. The areas visited include Nutnussa, Haril, Qalamabad, Sonamulla, Chalpova Bumhama, Ganapora, Swachalyari, Lilam, Dahama, Ashkanpora, Sirajpora, Tarathpora, Cherpova falling in Langate and Handwara. The District Development Commissioner directed the PDD to ensure completion of works under CM directions expediting within the stipulated time frame which are being carried out at Bumhama, Khan Basti, Nutnussa, Ganapora, Harril, Swuchalyari, Hingni Koot, Dolipora, areas. He also inspected Sirajpora- Tulwari road and called upon the executing agency to complete the work by June 2018. A culvert being constructed at Ashkenpora was also inspected. A delegation of local inhabitants demanded construction of additional cul- vert near Jamia Masjid Wagath and construction of road to orchards located at Wadoora. Several public deputations and sports lovers also met DDC and apprised him about the demands relating to developing works, healthcare and playfield and direc- tions were passed to Executive Engineer PHE to take necessary steps for resolving difficulties of inhabitants. The Assistant Commissioner Development Kupwara and concerned BDO were directed to take up development of playground of Ganapora to fulfill the demands of the young players and sports lovers of the area. The DDC also inspected the First Aid Centre (FAC) Ganapora to take stock of availability of staff medicines and maintenance of necessary records. The con- cerned were directed to provide all health facilities as per the needs and requirements of the locals especially the women. While taking the stock of installation of LT HT line and changing of electric polls at Haril, the DDC directed to com- plete the work up to 24th December. HESK played big role in strengthening educational infra: Moti Kaul Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 20: Tracing the nostalgic journey of Hindu Education Society Kashmir (HESK) since 1943, senior BJP leader, Moti Kaul informed that the Society had a big role to play in developing and strengthening the educational infra- structure in the Valley. Kaul, who has been elected president of HESK said this dur- ing a felicitation function of the newly elected Executive Body of HESK, which was attended by a large number of prominent com- munity members, who expressed their collective feelings of joy and happiness on the composition of the Executive Body, having an unblemished tract record. He said that some philanthrop- ic Kashmiri Pandits at that time had established the Society to cater to the Higher Educational needs of the entire Kashmir val- ley, which had meagre higher edu- cational opportunities at that time. The speakers on the occasion informed that the Society estab- lished Hindu College, later rechristened as Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar in 1943, with a secular approach in imparting higher education, especially to the deprived sec- tions of the Kashmiri Society. The speakers unambiguously expressed their confidence in the leadership of Kaul, whose dynamism, integrity and contri- bution to community causes is well established. Prof Satesh Bhan General Secretary of the new Executive Body said that Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar is the 2nd old- est College in the Valley. Renowned educationist pres- ent on the occasion recalled the struggle they had to make in the aftermath of the forced exile, for re-establishing another educa- tional institution namely Gandhi Memorial College of Education Jammu under the leadership of Late General BN Dhar PVSM. JAMMU, Dec 20: Tracing thenostalgic journey of HinduEducation Society Kashmir (HESK)since 1943, senior BJP leader, MotiKaul informed that the Society had abig role to play in developing andstrengthening the educational infra-structure in the Valley.

Kaul, who has been electedpresident of HESK said this dur-ing a felicitation function of thenewly elected Executive Body ofHESK, which was attended by alarge number of prominent com-munity members, who expressedtheir collective feelings of joy andhappiness on the composition ofthe Executive Body, having anunblemished tract record.

He said that some philanthrop-ic Kashmiri Pandits at that timehad established the Society tocater to the Higher Educationalneeds of the entire Kashmir val-ley, which had meagre higher edu-

cational opportunities at that time.The speakers on the occasion

informed that the Society estab-lished Hindu College, laterrechristened as GandhiMemorial College Srinagar in1943, with a secular approach inimparting higher education,especially to the deprived sec-tions of the Kashmiri Society.

The speakers unambiguouslyexpressed their confidence in theleadership of Kaul, whosedynamism, integrity and contri-bution to community causes iswell established.

Renowned educationist pres-ent on the occasion recalled thestruggle they had to make in theaftermath of the forced exile, forre-establishing another educa-tional institution namely GandhiMemorial College of EducationJammu under the leadership ofLate General BN Dhar PVSM.

The outgoing president, BLRazdan, Ex-Chief Income TaxCommissioner in his partingremarks expressed his confi-dence that the legacy of theSociety was being handed overto Kaul, who has a dedicatedsocial outreach and a personwidely acclaimed and acceptedby the whole Pandit Community.
