SRINAGAR, APR 2: Com-muters face immense problemsduring the movement of convoyson Kashmir highway in South andNorth Kashmir. They have been ac-cusing soldiers and troopers of ha-rassment. The ‘unruly’ behavior oftroopers on highway often leads toarguments and sometimes com-muters are being thrashed forquestioning the ‘diktats’ of forcespersonnel.
“We are really living in Hell andthe behavior of troopers with us ondaily basis makes us feel that wehave been enslaved and strippedoff our dignity and honour,” said adriver Showkat Ahmed who plieson Srinagar-Anantnag route.
“The soldiers guarding highway
stop us 30 minutes before the ar-rival of any convoy. We are not al-lowed to go and forced to wait for
over 30 minutes even after the dis-appearance of the Convoy from theroads,” said another driver.
The commuters allege that theyface harassment on daily basis.“We receive abuses and invectivesfrom troopers and sometimes evenwe are being thrashed and our vehi-cles damaged,” they said while talk-ing to news agency CNS nearprotest site at Letapora whereCRPF personnel thrashed schoolstudents. A school bus belonging toHajahad High School Awantiporawas not allowed to move ahead de-spite an official order by the au-thorities that school buses and am-bulances shall be allowed to moveduring the convoy. However whenthe students protest the CRPF mendeployed thrashed many of themincluding a minor girl.
