They have been ac- cusing soldiers and troopers of ha- rassment. The ‘unruly’ behavior of troopers on highway often leads to arguments and sometimes com- muters are being thrashed for questioning the ‘diktats’ of forces personnel. “We are really living in Hell and the behavior of troopers with us on daily basis makes us feel that we have been enslaved and stripped off our dignity and honour,” said a driver Showkat Ahmed who plies on Srinagar-Anantnag route. “The soldiers guarding highway stop us 30 minutes before the ar- rival of any convoy. We are not al- lowed to go and forced to wait for over 30 minutes even after the dis- appearance of the Convoy from the roads,” said another driver. The commuters allege that they face harassment on daily basis. “We receive abuses and invectives from troopers and sometimes even we are being thrashed and our vehi- cles damaged,” they said while talk- ing to news agency CNS near protest site at Letapora where CRPF personnel thrashed school students. A school bus belonging to Hajahad High School Awantipora was not allowed to move ahead de- spite an official order by the au- thorities that school buses and am- bulances shall be allowed to move during the convoy. However when the students protest the CRPF men deployed thrashed many of them including a minor girl. Bhat said several tribal habitations in Bandipore have been deprived of aanganwari centres and ration depots and people live in miserable condi- tions. He said many pro-poor schemes have not reached as yet and there is very lit- tle development. Referring to economic growth Bhat said even tra- ditional resource of Gojar community in the animal sector is squeezing. He demanded that enough funds should reach to raise their stock. "There is a wrong notion among the people outside J&K about people of the Kashmir and this place but things are quite different. We enjoyed at every place and everyone who inter- acted, be it a hotelier, houseboat owner, Shikara rower or shopkeeper, they treated us as guests. It is amazing, we don't find such kind and good-na- tured people too often any- where. During my tour, I was constantly sending my pictures and videos to fam- ily and friends showing them how beautiful Kash- mir is," he said.
