DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU SUNDAY, JUNE 3, 2018 (PAGE 5) ‘Unnecessary power shut down to be avoided’ R-APDRP works being intensified across State: Sunil Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, June 2: Minister for Power Development Department Sunil Sharma today reiterated the Government's commitment to improve power scenario in the State and said that augmentation of the infrastructure will be inten- sified in the coming days. Talking to reporters here, the Minister informed that power infra augmentation work is being speeded up from this month as tender process for pending works has been completed. The Government is spending crores of rupees on power sector, he said, adding "the Union Government has shown keen interest in augmentation of power sector of the State and has released Rs 8000 crore for the same." He said that the cumber- some tendering process caused delay but now the pending works will be speeded up starting with Udhampur district from June 6. He anticipated cooperation and patience from the public and expressed hope that augmentation work will be completed in a stipu- lated time. He said that due to increase in temperature in Jammu region the common masses are suffering a lot on account of power shortage. Minister stated that around 650 MVA power is required in Jammu region and the supply is 500 MVA, resulting in power curtailment. Minister acknowledged that the present infrastructure is not capable of providing the power supply consistently and hence needs to be augmented for tapping the full potential. On the issue of power thefts and unnecessary use of power, the Minister stressed that the power needs to be used judiciously. He said that the department is initiat- ing a strict surveillance against power thefts and the corruption within the department shall not be spared at any cost. The Minister further said that, three to four Grid Stations of Jammu city are going to be upgraded soon, adding that the Canal Grid Station with the capac- ity of 50 MVA has been already installed. He said that 20- MVA additional transformer will be commissioned at Janipur Grid and Barn to Janipur line is in process of augmentation. He said that 3 Receiving Stations at Hakkal, Jawala & Barnai will be inaugurated on June 3. The Minister said that unneces- sary shutdown will be avoided but the necessary shut- down for augmentation and strengthening shall be taken accordingly. He assured that all the remedi- al measures shall be taken well in time to provide un-interrupted power supply in Jammu. Commissioner Secretary Power Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Chief Engineer, Electric M&RE Wing, Jammu Ashwani Gupta, Chief Engineer, System & Operation Wing, Jammu Avinash Dubey and other senior officers of the department were present in the press conference. They brought their problems and difficulties into the notice of the Chief Minister and sought their redressal. A deputation of women employees of Civil Secretariat sought adequate representation to promotee officials in the KAS. A deputation from Shuhama, Ganderbal sought construction of Shuhama- Khimber road, construction of building for the local school and strengthening of power distribution network in the area. A deputation of fishermen community demanded con- ceiving project for Wullar conservation, revision of APL lists and subsidized ration in their favour. Another deputa- tion from Khrew sought aug- mentation of drinking water facilities at Satpakhren and construction of Bhaten- Sharshaleen road. A deputation from Haft Chinar, Srinagar sought prop- er rehabilitation of dislocated families. Another deputation from Chatergul, Pethpora sought establishment of an Anganwadi centre, veterinary centre and a health sub centre in the area. A deputation from Wanigam, Pattan demanded construction of Wanigam- Kreeri road and connectivity across Fresthar nallah. Deputations from Trehgam, Kupwara, Pulwama and Chadoora besides private school van operators, stringers of Information Department, Medical Officers from GMC, Srinagar, solar panel traders and Aadhar cen- tre operators also met the Chief Minister and raised their demands with her. The Chief Minister lis- tened to the demands of the deputations patiently and assured to look into them at the earliest. Gramin Dak Sevaks’ strike enters 12th day Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, June 2: The indefi- nite strike by Gramin Dak Sevaks of Postal Department, who are demanding implementation of GDS 7th Pay Commission, entered into 12th day today. Because of the ongoing strike since May 22, which is being spear- headed by National Union Gramin Dak Sevaks (NUGDS), work at Postal Department remained para- lyzed throughout India. At Jammu, a protest demon- stration was held by the Gramin Dak Sevaks in front of the office of Senior Post Master Jammu, Head Office. The protest demonstration was attended by a number of Gramin Dak Sevaks and members of the sister organizations of National Postal Federation J&K, which has extended its full support to the ongoing strike. The Comrades of National Union Gramin Dak Sevaks (NUGDS J&K Circle), who addressed the dharna, included Keshav Sharma, Ram Krishan Bhat, Harbans Singh, Som Nath, Charan Dass, Makhan Lal, Sarfu Ram, Sohan Lal and Ramesh Chander. * Watch video on www.excelsiornews.com

Gramin Dak Sevaks’strike enters 12th dayExcelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, June 2: The indefi-nite strike by Gramin Dak Sevaksof Postal Department, who aredemanding implementation ofGDS 7th Pay Commission,entered into 12th day today.
