NEW DELHI, June 18:

Absconding diamantaireNirav Modi managed to travelacross several countries evenafter information about his pass-port being revoked by theIndian Government was flashedin the Interpol central databaseon February 24, the CBI saidhere today.

The agency said it hadshared the information aboutrevocation of his passport in the'diffusion' notice issued throughthe Interpol on February 15.

"After the passport wasrevoked/cancelled by ExternalAffairs Ministry, we had updat-

ed this information in the diffu-sion notice. The informationthat passport of Nirav Modi hasbeen revoked was provided inthe Interpol central database,available to all the membercountries, on February 24,"CBI spokesperson AbhishekDayal said.

In its intimation to theInterpol, the CBI gave detailsof all the five passports issuedby the Government to NiravModi. These passports arelinked with each other, but theirnumbers changed because ofrenewal or the booklets becom-ing full.

According to the informa-tion shared by the UnitedKingdom (UK), after the infor-mation was flashed in theInterpol central database, NiravModi travelled from HeathrowAirport in London to HongKong on March 15, from JFKAirport in New York toHeathrow on March 28 andfrom Heathrow to Charles DeGaulle, Paris on March 31,

sources said.The information was pro-

vided in response to the 'diffu-sion' notice issued by the CBIthrough Interpol, they said,adding once the database isupdated, it is on the membercountries to share informationabout the movements of thesuspect and the agency canonly request them to share it.

The sources said that nocredible information about thelocation of Nirav Modi is avail-able with the agency.

The spokesperson said afterthe 'diffusion' notice was issuedby the Interpol on the requestof the CBI, the agency fol-lowed it up with the Interpolcoordination agencies of sixcountries, where Modi was sus-pected to have fled.

The agency requested thesecountries directly to share infor-mation about his whereaboutsand movements. (PTI)
