Important informationBefore you use your car audio systemfor the first time, please take the time toread the instruction manual carefullyand make yourself familiar with the au-dio equipment. Keep this manual handyin your car for future reference.

Traffic safety Traffic safety is always the top

priority. Do not attempt to operateyour car audio system unless the traf-fic conditions permit. Familiarizeyourself with the equipment beforeyou start driving.Always make sure that you are stillable to hear any warning signalscoming from outside the vehicle,such as police or fire engine sirens,at all times.As a result, please always select amoderate volume for playing your caraudio system while you are driving.

InstallationIf you would like to install your new carstereo yourself or add other audio com-ponents to the existing ones, thenplease read the instructions on installa-tion and connection at the end of thismanual carefully.

AccessoriesUse only Blaupunkt-approved accesso-ries.

Remote control unitThe optionally available RC 08 infraredremote control unit allows you to con-veniently operate the most importantsystem functions from the steeringwheel.

CD changersThe following CD changers can be con-nected directly: CDC A 06, CDC A 08,CDC A 072 and IDC A 09.The CDC A 05 and CDC A 071 can beconnected with an adapter cable (Blau-punkt no. 7 607 889 093).

Removable front panel

Theft protection systemTo prevent your car audio system frombeing stolen, it has been equipped witha removable front panel (flip releasepanel). Without the front panel, the caraudio system is useless to thieves.Protect your car audio system againsttheft and take the operating panel withyou each time you leave the vehicle.Never leave the release panel in the car,even if it is well hidden. The panel hasbeen designed so that it is easy to re-move.

Notes:● Do not drop the release panel.

● Do not expose the release panel todirect sunlight or other heat sourc-es.

● Store the release panel in the casesupplied.

Removing the operating panel➮ Press 1.

The release panel will unlock.

➮ First pull the operating panel for-ward and then slide it to the left toremove it.

● When you remove the operatingpanel, the car audio system will au-tomatically switch off.

● All of the settings will remainstored.

● A CD inserted into the car audiosystem will remain in place.

Replacing the operating panel➮ Slide the operating panel into the

guides from left to right.

➮ Press the left-hand side of the pan-el onto the car audio system until itlocks into place.

Note:● While replacing the panel, be care-

ful not to press on the display.

If the car audio system was on whenyou removed the panel, it will automat-ically switch back on using the samesettings when you replace it (radio, CDplayer or CD changer).

Switching the car audio system onby inserting a CDIf the system is switched off and thereis no CD in the CD player,

➮ press 9.

The flip release panel will open.

➮ Insert the CD into the CD playerwith the label facing upwards untilyou feel resistance. Do not useforce.

The CD will be pulled automatically intothe CD player.Do not attempt to assist or prevent thisprocess.

➮ Press the operating panel closedgently until you feel it click intoplace.

The audio system will switch on. CDplayback will begin.

Switching the car audiosystem on/offThe car audio system can be switchedon/off in a number of ways.

Switching the car audio system on/off with the ignitionIf the car audio system has been con-nected to your vehicle ignition, it is pos-sible to switch it on and off with the igni-tion.

You can also switch the car audio sys-tem on when the ignition is switched off.

➮ Press down and hold 3 until thecar audio system switches on.

Note:To prevent the car battery from runningdown, the radio will switch off again au-tomatically after one hour.

Switching the car audio system on/off with the removable front panel

➮ Remove the release panel.

The car audio system will switch off.

➮ Replace the release panel.

The car audio system will switch onagain. The last settings used (radio, CDplayer or CD changer) will be activated.

➮ Press 3 to switch the car audiosystem on.

➮ Press 3 for longer than 2 secondsto switch the car audio system offagain.

The system will then switch off.

Volume controlThe car audio system volume can beadjusted to levels from 0 (off) to 66 (max-imum).

➮ To increase the volume, turn thevolume control knob 2 to theright.

➮ To decrease the volume, turn thevolume control knob 2 to the left.

Adjusting the power-on volumeIt is possible to adjust the volume atwhich the car audio system switches on.

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until “ONVOLUME” appears in the display.

➮ Press : to adjust the vol-ume.

If you adjust this setting to “0”, the caraudio system will switch on at the vol-ume used before it was switched off.

Warning of serious injuryIf the power-on volume is set to themaximum level, it may be extremelyloud when the car audio system isswitched on.If the power-on volume is set to 0 andthe car audio system was played atmaximum volume before it wasswitched off, it may be extremely loudwhen the car audio system isswitched back on. This could resultin serious injury to your ears!

➮ Once you have selected the de-sired settings, press MENU 8 orOK ;.

VOLUME CONTROL

MuteYou can reduce the volume of the caraudio system immediately (mute).

➮ Press 3 briefly.

“MUTE” will appear in the display.

Selecting the mute levelIt is possible to select the mute level.

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until “MUTELEVEL” appears in the display.

➮ Press : to select the mutelevel.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU 8 or OK ;.

Mute during telephoneoperationIf your car audio system has beenequipped with a mobile telephone, it willautomatically switch to mute when youuse the phone. This will not work un-less the mobile phone is connected tothe car audio system as described inthe installation instructions.If a traffic announcement is receivedwhile the phone is in use and traffic in-formation priority has been activated,you will hear the traffic announcement.For more information, refer to the sec-tion on “Traffic information reception”.The car audio system will be muted tothe mute level selected.

Adjusting the volume of thebeepFor a number of functions you will heara beep if you press a key for longer than2 seconds, e.g. if you want to store aradio station on a station preset. You canadjust the volume level of this beep.

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until“BEEP” appears in the display.

➮ Press : to adjust the volume.“0” means the beep volume is off,“9” means the beep volume is ad-justed to the maximum volume.

➮ Once you have adjusted the set-tings, press MENU MENU 8 orOK ;.

Radio operationThis car audio system has beenequipped with an RDS radio receiver.Many FM radio stations now transmitthe RDS signal, which contains suchother information as the station nameand the program type (PTY) along withthe regular station programming.As soon as the car radio receiver de-tects the station name, it will appear inthe display. It is also possible to displaythe program type. For more information,refer to the section on “Program Type(PTY)”.

Switching to the radio modeIf you are currently using the CD playeror CD changer,

➮ press CD•C @ repeatedly until“RADIO” appears in the display.

Special RDS functions (AF, REG)The special RDS functions for AF (Al-ternate Frequency) and REG (REGion-al) improve the performance of your carradio.

● AF. If this RDS function is activated,the car radio continuously searchesin the background for the frequencywith the best reception for the sta-tion you have tuned into.

● REG. A number of radio stationsbroadcast different regional pro-gramming at different times of theday. Use REG to prevent your carradio from tuning into alternate fre-quencies which might have differ-ent programming.

Switching REG on/off

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until “REG”appears in the display. “OFF” or“ON” will appear next to “REG”.

➮ Press or : to switch REG offor on.

➮ Press MENU 8 or OK ;.

Switching RDS functions on/off

➮ To take advantage of the RDSfunctions for AF and REG, pressRDS 4.

When the RDS functions have beenactivated, “RDS” will light up as a sym-bol in the display. When you activate thefunctions, “REG ON” or “REG OFF” willappear briefly in the display.

Selecting wavebands/memorybanksUsing this car audio system, you cantune into radio stations on the FM, MWand LW (AM) wavebands. There arethree memory banks for the FM wave-band and one memory bank each forMW and LW (the Sylt CD50 does notinclude MW/LW radio).You can store six stations in each ofthese memory banks.

➮ To switch between the different FMmemory banks or wavebands,press BND / TS 5.

Tuning into radio stationsYou can tune into radio stations in anumber of different ways.

Automatic seek tuning

➮ Press or :.

The radio will tune into the next availa-ble station within reception range.

Manual station selectionYou can also tune into radio stationsmanually.

➮ Press or :.

Note:You cannot use manual tuning unlessthe RDS functions are deactivated.

Paging through the broadcastingnetwork (for FM only)If a radio broadcasting network hasmore than one station, you can pagethrough the “station network”.

➮ Press or : to tune into thenext station in the network.

Note:To take advantage of this function, youmust have activated the RDS functions.

It is only possible to tune into those sta-tions which have been received oncebefore already. To do this, use the SCANor TravelStore function.

Adjusting seek tuning sensitivityIt is also possible to adjust the sensitiv-ity of the seek tuning function to tunethe radio into stations with strong recep-tion signals only, or to those with weak-er reception signals as well.

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until“SENS” appears in the display.

➮ Press :.

The currently selected setting will ap-pear in the display. “SENS HI6” indicatesthe highest level of sensitivity, “SENSLO1” the lowest. If you select “SENSLO”, “lo” will light up in the display.

➮ Press : to adjust the desiredsensitivity.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU 8 or OK ;.

Storing radio stations

Storing radio stations manually

➮ Select the desired memory bankFM1, FM2, FMT or either MW orLW (the Sylt CD50 does not in-clude MW/LW radio).

➮ Tune the radio into the desired sta-tion.

➮ Press and hold down one of thestation preset buttons 1 to 6 > onwhich you want to store the radiostation for longer than two seconds.

Storing radio stationsautomatically (TravelStore)You can automatically store the six ra-dio stations with the strongest receptionin your current reception area (for FMonly). These stations will be stored inthe FMT memory bank.

Note:Any stations stored previously in thememory bank will be deleted.

➮ Press and hold down BND / TS 5for longer than two seconds.

The storing process will begin. “TRAV-EL-STORE” will appear in the display.After the stations have been stored, theradio will automatically begin to play thestation stored on preset button 1 for theFMT memory bank.

Recalling stored radio stations➮ Select the desired station memory

bank.

➮ Press the station button 1 to 6 >on which you have stored the de-sired radio station.

Scanning the radio stationswithin reception range (SCAN)You can scan all of the radio stationscurrently within your reception range.The scan time can be set in the menuto play from five to 30 seconds.

Starting SCAN

➮ Press and hold down OK ; forlonger than two seconds.

SCAN will begin. “SCAN” will appearbriefly in the display, followed by the

flashing station name or frequency ofthe radio station currently beingscanned.

Stopping the SCAN function,continuing to listen to the radiostation scanned

➮ Press OK ;.

SCAN will end and the last stationscanned will continue playing.

Adjusting the scan time➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until“SCANTIME” appears in the dis-play.

➮ Press : to set the scan timeas desired.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU 8 or OK ;.

Note:The scan time selected also applies tothe SCAN function for CD player andCD changer operation.

Program Type (PTY)In addition to the radio station name, anumber of FM stations transmit informa-tion on the type of program they broad-cast. This car radio has been equippedto receive and display this information.

These program types can include:

CULTURE TRAVEL JAZZ

SPORT NEWS POP

ROCK CLASSICS

Using the PTY function, you can selectthe radio station according to the typeof program being broadcast.

As soon as the radio registers a radiostation broadcasting the program typeselected, it will automatically switch fromthe station playing or from the CD play-er or CD changer mode to that station.

Switching PTY on/off

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until “PTYON” or “PTY OFF” appears in thedisplay.

➮ Press or : to switch thisfunction either on or off.

PTY will light up in the display when thisfunction has been activated.

➮ Press MENU 8 or OK ;.

Selecting the program type andstarting seek tuning

➮ Press or :.

The currently selected program type willappear in the display.

➮ If you would like to select a differentprogram type, press or :while the program type is on dis-play to switch to another programtype.

OR

➮ Press one of the station preset but-tons from 1 to 6 > to select theprogram type stored on that partic-ular station button.

The program type selected will appearbriefly in the display.

Note:If the radio is not able to find a stationbroadcasting the program type select-ed, you will hear a beep and “NO PTY”will appear briefly in the display. The sta-tion selected previously will then resumeplay.

Storing the program types on thestation preset buttons

➮ Press or : to select the pro-gram type.

➮ Press the desired station presetbutton (1 to 6) > for longer thantwo seconds.

The program type selected will then bestored on the station preset button (1 to6) > pressed.

Optimising radio reception

Interference-related treble cut(HICUT)The HICUT function improves receptionwhen reception begins to deteriorate. Ifinterference occurs, then the treble andthe noise is cut automatically.

Switching HICUT on/off

➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until “HI-CUT” appears in the display.

➮ Press or : to switch HICUTon or off.

“HICUT 0” indicates that the function isswitched off; when “HICUT 1” appears,the treble will be cut.

➮ Press MENU 8 or OK ;.

Selecting the display of variabletextA number of radio stations use the RDSsignal to transmit advertising or othertexts in place of their station names.These “variable texts” will appear in thedisplay. It is possible to adjust your ra-dio so that these “variable texts” do notappear.

➮ Press and hold down RDS 4 until“NAME FIX” appears in the display.

➮ To have the “variable texts” dis-played again, press and hold downRDS 4 until “NAME VAR” appearsin the display.

Traffic informationreception

Switching traffic informationpriority on/off➮ Press TRAF ?.

Traffic information priority is activatedwhen the traffic congestion symbol lightsup in the display.

Note:You will hear a warning beep

● if you leave the reception area ofthe traffic information station youare tuned into.

● if you are listening to a CD, leavethe reception area of the traffic in-formation station you are tuned intoand the seek tuning function is un-able to find another traffic informa-tion station.

● if you switch from a traffic informa-tion station to a station which doesnot broadcast traffic information.

Then either switch off traffic informationpriority or switch to a different traffic in-formation station.

Adjusting the volume for trafficannouncements➮ Press MENU 8.

➮ Press : repeatedly until “TAVOLUME” appears in the display.

➮ Press : to adjust the trafficannouncement volume.

CD player operationThe CD player in this car audio systemcan be used to play conventional musicCDs with a diameter of 12 cm.

Danger of damage to the CDplayer!CD singles with a diameter of 8 cmand contour CDs (shape CDs) arenot suitable for use with this CD play-er.We assume no liability for any dam-age done to the CD player resultingfrom the use of unsuitable CDs.

Starting CD player operation● If there is no CD in the player,

➮ press 9.

The flip release panel will open.

➮ Insert a CD into the player with thelabel facing up until you feel resist-ance. Do not use force.

The CD will be pulled into the playerautomatically.Do not attempt to assist or prevent thisprocess.

➮ Press the operating panel closedgently until you feel it click intoplace.

CD playback will begin.

● If there already is a CD insertedinto the player,

➮ press CD•C @ repeatedly until“CD” appears in the display.

Playback will resume at the point whereit was interrupted.

Selecting tracks➮ Press a key on the cursor block :

to select the next or the previoustrack.

Press or : once to restart thesame track.

Starting CD changer operation➮ Press CD•C @ repeatedly until

“CHANGER” appears in the dis-play.

Playback will begin with the first CD thechanger detects in the magazine.

Selecting CDs➮ To select a CD up or down in the

magazine, press or : the re-quired number of times.

Selecting tracks➮ To select a different track on the

CD currently playing, press or : the required number of times.

EqualizerThis car audio system is equipped witha parametric 2-band equalizer. For“LOW EQ” the gain can be set to a fre-quency between 60 to 100 Hz. For“HIGH EQ” the gain can be set to a fre-quency between 10000 and 17500 Hz.As a result, it is possible to significantlyinfluence the in-vehicle acoustics.

Notes on making the settingsWe recommend that you use a CD youare familiar with to make the settings.

Before you set the equaliser, set bass,treble, balance and fader to “0” and de-activate the Loudness function. Formore information on how to do this, re-fer to the section on “Tone and balance/fader”.

➮ Now listen to the CD you have se-lected.

➮ Evaluate the sound according toyour own personal preferences.

➮ Now refer to “Sound impression” inthe table.

➮ Make the settings for the equalizeras described under “What to do”.

Adjusting the spectrometerThe spectrometer in the display usessymbols to temporarily indicate whatadjustments are made to the volume,the tone and balance/fader and theequalizer settings.

If no adjustments are being made to thesystem, the spectrometer displays theoutput level of the car radio.You can select the type of spectrome-ter you want displayed in the menu.There are two different types available.

Selecting the spectrometer type
