Thetop-of-rackBrocade8000connectstoserversthroughConvergedNetworkAdapters(CNAs)suchastheBrocade1010andBrocade1020.TheconsolidatedSANandLANserverportsandcorrespondingcablessimplifyconfigurationandcablinginservercabinetstoreduceacquisitioncosts.withfewercomponentsusingpowerorrequiringcooling,organizationscansavesignificantoperatingcostsaswell.
Moreover,consolidationisnotlimitedtohardwarecomponents.BecauseFCoEpreservesFibreChannelconstructsand
services,itintegratesseamlesslyintoexistingFibreChannelenvironments,enablingorganizationstomaximizethevalueoftheircurrentinvestments.Inaddition,FCoEextendsthereachofFibreChannelmanagementapplicationsandtools,enablingorganizationstomanageFCoE-attacheddevicesunderasingle,unifiedmanagementumbrella(seeFigure1).

TheswitchutilizesASICtechnologythatsupportsporttrunkingforFibreChannelandlinkaggregationforEthernet.ForFibreChannel,anInter-SwitchLink(ISL)trunkcansupplyupto64Gbit/secofbalanceddatathroughput(seeFigure2).Inadditiontoreducingcongestionandincreasingbandwidth,BrocadeISLTrunkingutilizesISLsmoreefficientlytopreservethenumberofusableswitchports.ForEthernet,theBrocade8000supportsstandards-basedLinkAggregationControlProtocol(LACP).
