QUOTING COACH DELANEY ON THE WYOMING GAME

ON THE COWBOYS: “They have a lot of starters back, and I told our players that I know coach(Wyoming mentor Craig) Bohl and I know Steve Stanard, their defensive coordinator, really well, who was with our staff at Colorado State. They are guys who have always been strict, discipli-narians, and I know their guys are going to play hard. I guarantee the guys they coach havebought into their philosophy, of being tough, hard-nosed players, who will play hard from startto finish. I wouldn’t expect anything else from them.

“I know they will be a physical football team. Will they be as physical as North Dakota State ayear ago, probably not quite, because most of the guys who had been with them in that programhad been there four or five years or so.

“I know if you’re going to play Wyoming, this is as probably as good of a time to play them --since its their first game out of the chute. But, you give coach Bohl and that staff some time Iknow that they will put together a program that the people in Wyoming can be really proud of.”

ON THE GRIZ: “What we’ll have to do is just do what we do. It’s about us being able to execute, and be physical enough to stand up to an FBS school.

“I would be very, very disappointed if we don’t run the football well. I am not going to say we arerunning up and down the field obviously, but we’ve got enough things in our offensive packagethat we will run the football, and we’ll be patient. We’ve got to run the football. Everything thatwe do is predicated on the run game. Obviously you can’t stand up against anybody and throwthe ball 60 times with what we do, so we’ve got to be able to run the ball in order for play-actionto be effective. And you’ve got to be able to run the ball in order to run the vertical game in thepassing game.”

The Griz managed just 14 rushing yards on 28 carries for just 0.5 per tote, and lost73 yards via sacks.

The Cowboys scored three unanswered touchdowns in the first 16 minutes of play, and when QB Jeremy Silcox connected with Brahms Derenoncourt for an 80-yard touchdownpass, UW led 21-0 with 14:37 to go in the second quarter.

The Grizzlies’ first score was a 27-yard interception return for a TD by seniorsafety Jake Dennehy. UM cut the UW’s lead to 21-13 in the third quarter on a 30-yard passfrom Rowell to senior halfback Josh Branen.

UW scored the final points of the game on a 1-yard run with 57 seconds to go inthe third quarter for the final margin.

The Griz, coached by Mick Dennehy, went 8-4 in 1997, and lost 19-14 atMcNeese State in a first-round 1-AA playoff game. The Cowboys, coached by Dana Dimel, went 8-5 that season.
