Hessen has a population of about 6,075,000 in a square surface area of 21,114.72 km. With a history stretching back thousands of years, Hessen can be rooted back to the Chatti, a Germanic tribe. The geography of Hesse is mostly forest with a range of mountains. They also have many rivers such as the Fulda and Eder rivers in the north, and the Main and Rhine in the south. Hessen has very distinct wet and dry seasons. Hessen has a number of small towns and villages as well as major cities. The city is the home to the German Federal Bank, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, and a seat of the European Central Bank. Frankfurt has a population of about 650,000 people. Travel to Frankfurt would be very convenient as English is also widely spoken in the city as 25% of the city’s population includes foreigners. Some of the attractions in Frankfurt include the Alte Oper, a Renaissance- style opera house, and St. Paul's Church. On October 20, 1880, Frankfurt's Opera House was officially inaugurated after seven years of construction. Able to seat more than 2000 people, the Frankfurt opera house was one of Germany's most important opera houses. However, during WWII, the opera house was burned down and took 24 years for the approval to repair the opera house was made. The opera house reopened on August 28, 1981. It was renamed to 'Alte Oper' since Frankfurt had already built a new Opera House in 1951.

Hessen

Hessen, Hesse in English, is one of Germany’s 16 states. The capital of Hessen is

Wiesbaden. Hessen has a population of about 6,075,000 in a square surface area of 21,114.72

km. With a history stretching back thousands of years, Hessen can be rooted back to the Chatti, a

Germanic tribe. The geography of Hesse is mostly forest with a range of mountains. They also

have many rivers such as the Fulda and Eder rivers in the north, and the Main and Rhine in the

south. Hessen has very distinct wet and dry seasons.

Hessen has a number of small towns and villages as well as major cities. Some of the

major cities in Hessen are Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, and Darmstadt. Frankfurt is

Germany's financial headquarters and plays an active role in Europe’s economy. The city is the

home to the German Federal Bank, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, and a seat of the European

Central Bank. Frankfurt has a population of about 650,000 people. Travel to Frankfurt would be

very convenient as English is also widely spoken in the city as 25% of the city’s population

includes foreigners. Some of the attractions in Frankfurt include the Alte Oper, a Renaissance-

style opera house, and St. Paul's Church. On October 20, 1880, Frankfurt's Opera House was

officially inaugurated after seven years of construction. Able to seat more than 2000 people, the

Frankfurt opera house was one of Germany's most important opera houses. However, during

WWII, the opera house was burned down and took 24 years for the approval to repair the opera

house was made. The opera house reopened on August 28, 1981. It was renamed to 'Alte Oper'

since Frankfurt had already built a new Opera House in 1951.

Wiesbaden, Hessen’s capital, is well known for their spas, theatre, and social activities.

However, because of their significance during WWII, Hessen was heavily bombed and many of

the rich Roman architecture was destroyed. Hessen also played a major role in the years

proceeding WWII. Wiesbaden's main landmarks are the spas and casino, built in 1907 under

Kaiser Wilhelm II. Other significant landmarks include the Hessian State Theatre, the Market

Church, and the Biebrich Palace. Also, behind the spas are spa gardens in the style of an English

landscape garden with magnolias, azaleas, rhododendrons and cypress trees. According to

statistics, one in every 270 inhabitants in Wiesbaden is a millionaire. This is reflected by the

town’s appearance with villas, extravagant parks, and large roads. Wiesbaden was a site of theAir Force Headquarters in Europe until 1975. Wiesbaden served as the hub for many events like

the Berlin Airlift.

Located right beneath Frankfurt and Wiesbaden is Darmstadt. Darmstadt promotes itself

as a "city of science’ and conducts important activities such as aerospace engineering, chemistry,

and biotechnology. Hesse is one of Germany’s main economic, industrial and technological and

transportation centers with a rich history.

Overall, Hessen is one of the many states in Germany perfect for travel. With English

speaking residents and prominent opera houses in Frankfurt, relaxing spas in Wiesbaden, and

ground breaking research in Darmstadt, Hessen is a state with open arms to both international

individuals and businesses alike.
