Sears, Roebuck & Co. (847-286-2500) is developing a new store concept known as MyGofer. The first location will occupy an 85,000 sq.ft. former Kmart in Joliet, IL that the company plans to close this month. The majority of the space will serve as a warehouse with approximately 20% of the floor space converted to a showroom. Customers will be able to select products online or in the showroom and pick them up in the store or through a drive-through. The company plans to open a second MyGofer site in the Chicago, IL area.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is slated to open 85 Lowe’s Home Improvement locations nationwide this year with plans to end the year with 1,600 stores. The company opened 120 of the hardware and home improvement stores during 2008.

OMX, Inc. (630-438-7800) is introducing a new concept, Max Wellness, in four stores during the first half of this year. The stores, a departure from the company’s OfficeMax office supply stores, offer vitamins and supplements, medicine and medical and fitness supplies, in addition to in-store pharmacies and mini-clinics.

Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (800-499-9586) is slated to open a Buffalo Wild Wings location along East Chicago Street in Coldwater, MI. The family-friendly bar and grill will occupy a former Fashion Bug site and will open during May. The company is also slated to open a location at the site of a former Joe’s Be-Bop Café at the Navy Pier in Chicago, IL. The company currently operates 550 units nationwide. DogEworks, Navy Pier Signature Store and Garrett Popcorn Shop are also slated to open locations at the Navy Pier.

Coach, Inc. (212-594-1850) plans to open 20 Coach locations in North America during 2009, down from 40. The stores carry leather and mixed-media handbags and accessories. The company also plans to halt its retail store expansion for fiscal 2010 and lower the prices of its products by 10% to 15%.

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) plans to open 50 Kohl’s department stores this year, including 31 in former Mervyn’s sites assumed during the latter’s bankruptcy filing last year. The company will utilize the former Mervyn’s sites in its plan to enter under-penetrated markets.

Aldi, Inc. (630-879-8100) is slated to open 75 Aldi stores nationwide this year, a significant increase over its typical yearly schedule, including locations in Bridgeton, NJ and Bensalem, Quakertown and Upper Macungie Township, PA. The company will also enter the New York, NY and Dallas-Fort Worth, TX metropolitan areas. The discount grocery stores, offering a large selection of private label goods, occupy spaces of 17,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 1,000 units nationwide, primarily throughout the Midwest and Northeast.

Saladmaster, Inc. (817-633-3555), through a franchisee, plans to open a Saladmaster store in Andover or northeast Wichita, KS this year. The stores feature metallic cookware with lifetime warranties. The company currently operates locations, through franchisees, nationwide and throughout 40 countries internationally.

Focus Brands, Inc. (404-257-7040) is slated to open a Moe’s Southwest Grill location in Stroudsburg, PA during the first half of the year.
