Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new school year for 2015 - 2016. Russell Elementary will be participating in the District-

wide Ballroom Dance Competition in May. We are looking for students who are interested in

participating in this Team Competition, and who are also willing to commit to this program for the

entire school year. This program is administered under UIL guidelines; and therefore, passing grades

are essential for students to continue their participation with the Ballroom Dance Team. Progress

Report/Report card check and teacher input will be used to monitor the academics. The students will be

selected for the team after a few weeks of ballroom classes. October 6 will be the day of tryouts for

boys and girls.

The program requires that students attend afterschool practices, two to three times a week, and quite

possibly Saturday morning practices once a month. Notices will go out to parents, with plenty of

time, to make you aware of Saturday practices.

There will be a mock competition where the students will need to purchase dance attire to wear which

I will send information to you later. The Ballroom Competition itself will be in May, and the wardrobe

for the students will come from the School District’s Fine Arts Department (on loan) to the

school/student. ($110.00-girls and $ 90.00-boys if you want your own attire)

Afterschool practices will be Tuesday for boys, Thursday for girls. Times for practice are 3:15 to 4:30.

I will always let the students know if the practices are cancelled through the morning announcements

so they have time to call home. Ballroom Practice begins September 15 and 17, 2015. The boys begin

Tuesday the 15th and the girls start on Thursday the 17th. Students will meet in the cafeteria feel free

to send your child with a small snack they will have a few minutes to eat it.
