NEWSLETTER December 2012 CHRISTMAS FAIR This Friday is non uniform day in exchange for chocolate gifts for our Christmas Fair. School will close on Friday 13 th December at 2.45pm ready for you all to come and buy gifts and play games at the fair, held in the KS 2 hall. Badgers will start at 2.45pm and staff will take children in our wrap around care to the fair. YEAR 6 IN SUTTON PARK Year 6 visited Sutton Park this month hoping to find inspiration for Environmental poems, we were not disappointed. Everyone had a fantastic time and the behaviour and attitude of the children was superb. The children were able to invent similes, metaphors, alliteration and even some powerful personification based on what they could see, hear, smell and touch which really brought to life their imaginations and enthusiasm towards nature and poetry. ‘Decomposing leaves lie motionless on the battlefield of nature’s struggle’ Above is an example of the influence that these practical activities can have on our children. I hope we are able to spend many more enriching hours in this local educational resource we call Sutton Park. COMENIUS 2012/13 BRITISH COUNCIL Aimee Dutton and Elaine Johnson had a great time in Split Croatia planning a Comenius project that will run for the next 2 years. The project is called 'Let's Meet Where Our Cultures Meet', and involves learning about the different traditions and cultures in Turkey, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Poland and Italy. Last week year 5 started to make posters and leaflets about the different countries. We are very excited as for the next part of the project we are taking 8 children from year 5 to Spain in February. We are looking forward to welcoming the children and adults from the countries in the project to our school in June. ECO COUNCIL Congratulations to our Eco Council for organising our Green Day. Sainsbury's have donated £70 which will be used to help us recycle batteries and plastic products in school.

YEAR 6 IN SUTTON PARK

Year 6 visited Sutton Park this month hoping to find inspiration for Environmental poems, we were not disappointed.

Everyone had a fantastic time and the behaviour and attitude of the children was superb. The children were able to

invent similes, metaphors, alliteration and even some powerful personification based on what they could see, hear,

smell and touch which really brought to life their imaginations and enthusiasm towards nature and poetry.

Above is an example of the influence that these practical activities can have on our children. I hope we are able to

spend many more enriching hours in this local educational resource we call Sutton Park.

MAD HATTERS

Well done to everyone who entered the Lichfield Garrick Mad Hatter’s

Hat competition. The standard was extremely high and we were amazed

at how creative the entries were. We had to choose one for our school

entry (which was no easy task!). The winning hat made by Gracie (Y1)

and Lilie-Mae Burr (Nursery). It was also judged by the Garrick to be the

best hat of all the school entries, beating the competition by miles. Their

hat will be featured in the programme, displayed at the Garrick and the

girls will get to meet the cast of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. We have

displayed all of the other hats and photographs of the children wearing

them in the KS2 entrance. Please come and admire them. We have such

talented children at our school!

Y5 ABERDOVEY OUTWARD BOUND RESIDENTIAL

Year 5 have returned from a very successful week at

Aberdovey Outward Bound Centre. They took part in activities

ranging from raft building, mountain climbing, caving, beach

camp and conservation. This was an amazing opportunity for

the whole class to work together and support each other with

challenging activities.

Thanks go to the Outward Bound Association who generously

subsidised each place. We will fundraise for this charity after

Christmas to give back.

Year 4 will be staying at Bockleton Residential in January.
