Dear Parishioner, GLADD Confirmation was Saturday, November 30, at 10 a.m., with Bishop Mark Bartosic. The Giving Love Apostolate to the Developmentally Disabled (GLADD) is celebrating its 50th year in 2019-2020. It is a true testament to this program that some of the original volunteers are still involved with the program. With patience, love, and never ending faith, GLADD volunteers work one-on-one with children and young adults who have developmental disabilities. The volunteers gently guide these young people towards understanding of Jesus and preparation for the sacraments. The program provides important support for participants and their families. Each month, we host a special GLADD Mass here at St. John Brebeuf -- an event during which overflowing joy can be felt. If you have never attended a GLADD Mass before, you are always welcome. I’m sure the experience will bear witness that God’s love is real and alive in our midst. Congratulations to Lois Kozeny and her team of ministers. Those that were confirmed are: Kailyn Ferkin, Aidan Palomar, Isabella Palomar, Veronica Grden, Devin Conroy, Rachel Jackson, Nicholas Mardigan, Alan Maslowski, Caitlin Sanchez The presence of Bishop Bartosic reminds us of the hierarchical church to which we belong. As the Episcopal vicar of Vicariate II, Bishop Bartosic reminds us that we are part of the Church in Chicago, with Cardinal Cupich as our bishop, and part of the worldwide church in union with Pope Francis, the bishop of Rome. These three levels of church remind us of the interconnectedness that we should feel as Baptized Catholics. We belong to our parish, we belong to the Church of Chicago, and we belong to Christ as a member of his mystical body on all these levels. We are called to show, by our lives of faith, that the ministry of Jesus continues to serve the world because we make a difference on these levels of our church. This form of existence has often been described as the family of faith. This is an apt image because of the ways that families serve to nurture the lives of their members and assist each member in growing in wisdom, age, and grace just as the Holy Family did for its members. Welcome and God bless all our GLADD Families as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary Year. Please know we

love you and value you as very special members of our family. As we continue to welcome all who are searching for meaning and healing in their lives, I believe that we must keep this understanding of the family of the church in mind. We are bigger than an individual or even a group of individuals. When we welcome people to the faith, we welcome them not only to St. John Brebeuf Parish but to much more. We welcome them back to the Church of Chicago, and the church universal. This is a church that has a history which is human and flawed in many ways but it is also moving always forward in hope. This is a church that remembers its dead but does not live in the past. It respects the present but knows it, too, will pass away. So it is only in Christ, the same, “yesterday, today and tomorrow” that we most especially welcome and come to know Christ in a profoundly new way. For it is Christ who will enter the hearts of all good the good people who are looking for a life of grace and peace. It is Christ that will stay with them, long after we have gone onto our eternal reward! Sincerely, Father Mike Meany

Drodzy Parafianie, Bierzmowanie GLADD miało miejsce w sobotę, 30 listopada, o godzinie 10.00 rano, wraz z biskupem Markiem Bartosic. Zespół wolontariuszy delikatnie prowadzi tych młodych ludzi do zrozumienia Jezusa i przygotowania do sakramentów. Bierzmowani to: Kailyn Ferkin, Aidan Palomar, Isabella Palomar, Veronica Grden, Devin Conroy Rachel Jackson, Nicholas Mardigan, Alan Masłowski, and Caitlin Sanchez. Obecność biskupa Bartosic przypomina nam hierarchiczny Kościół, do którego należymy.

Jesteśmy więksi niż osoba indywidualna i grupa indywidualnych osób. Albowiem Chrystus przychodzi do serc przepełnionych dobrem, ludzi szukających życia w łasce i pokoju. Ten Chrystus pozostanie z nimi na długo i na zawsze kiedy osiągniemy naszą wieczną nagrodę! Z poważaniem, Ks. Mike Meany

Keeping Christ In Christmas

Here are a few helpful suggestions for how to keep Christ in Christmas this first week: • Prepare by observing the four weeks of Advent with an

Advent wreath, candles, daily prayers, and meditations.

• Send religious Christmas cards, not secular ones; add "Jesus is the reason for the season!"

• Wear a visible religious medal, pin, or cross.
