BIBLE STUDY—We invite you to allow God’s Word to speak to your heart through studying His Word, to refresh your soul and to be touched by His Love at one of English Bible Studies. Thursday mornings at 9:30 am-11:30 am in the parish office conference room. Monday evenings at 7:00—8:30 p.m. in Casa San Juan. Come and see and be surprised!

A note for you: For some action to be a sin, you have to know or believe it is a sin. And then you have to voluntarily choose to do what you know or believe is a sin. If you do something that isn’t a sin but you believe it is a sin and choose to do it, it becomes a sin because you voluntarily choose to do something wrong. There are many persons who don’t really understand this. They go to confession and mention things that really aren’t sins. To clarify this, here are some examples. We Catholics are supposed to go to Mass on Sunday as a way of obeying the third commandment to keep holy the Lord’s Day. (If there is a Saturday evening mass of antici-pation that counts as Sunday mass). Missing Mass on Sunday is a seri-ous sin if you are able to go to Mass but voluntarily choose not to go. But if you are sick and can’t go to Mass it is not a sin because you are not voluntarily choosing not to go. If you want to go but do not drive a car and have no other way to get to church, it is not a sin because you did not voluntarily choose to miss Mass. If you miss Mass on Sunday because you would lose your job if you don’t work that day, then you would not commit a sin because you didn’t choose voluntarily to miss Mass. If you are traveling and you could not go to Mass, it is not a sin because you did not decide voluntarily not to go to Mass. It is a sin to miss Mass on Sunday only if you can go and voluntarily choose not to go. Another example – bad thoughts. If a man sees a girl dressed indecent-ly and gets an impure thought, that is not a sin in itself because he did not choose voluntarily to have that impure thought. It can become a sin if he voluntarily choose to hang on to the impure thought instead of try-ing to get rid of it. If someone offends you and that gives anger that is not a sin in itself because you did not choose voluntarily to get angry. If you continue to think about the offense, then it becomes a sin. It be-comes a sin because then you are voluntarily choosing to be angry. There are more possible examples. But remember, you can not commit a sin unless you voluntarily choose to do something you know is a sin.
