The Anakie Primary School and Anakie Community House art show has been a resounding success. Much work was done by many people, but special mention must be made to Christy Thompson, the school’s art teacher, who guided the children in preparing an enormous array or work. Sadly, Christy became ill
a few short weeks prior to the event. Principal Toni Scott (front page, with Kirra and McKenzie Condon) very ably
took up the reins to coordinate this fabulous event. There was a huge attendance at the Friday evening opening where delicious canapes and Del Rios wine were enjoyed.
Not only was the hall filled with fabulous art, but parent Kirsty Holden provided incredible
art-themed decorations which had to be seen to be believed!
1st Anakie Scout Group Well, what a hoot of an event organised by Rhys. Halloween costumes were interesting and different! Did you see us around Anakie on 31 October? All Hallows Eve. A night to remember, that’s for sure! The rest of the term is only a few weeks, but we’re packing in a lot! There’s a cub and scout hike which is to be organised by the scouts as a patrol activity, so get a move on.... There will be a sleepover and a camp venue TBD. We have 4 cubs, with Alisha the sixer, and two scouts. For the rest of term we will be at the rear of Anakie Hall, Staughton Vale Road at 6.30pm on Wednesdays. Ruth and Rhys warmly invite interested kids and parents to pop in to see what we’re about. And any adults interested in undertaking a role in scouting are also most welcome! So what’s happening for our end of year activity? Look out, Adventure Park is a popular location for swimming, running, resting and winding down for the year. All scouting families welcome. Times and dates coming. C’mon guys, it’ll be a hoot!

Training: Sunday 2 December @ 9am. Prospective members - come and see what we do. Fire restrictions were enforced on Monday 26 November and finish on Wednesday 1 May in the City of Greater Geelong and Golden Plains Shire. This means NO FIRES are to be lit without a permit from CFA or the relevant council. A zero tolerance is being enforced by fire brigades who attend any non-permitted fires and Vic Police will be advised to attend. The brigade attended two calls last month; support to Balliang and a Rescue in Granite Rd. Our neighbouring brigades have been busy attending a small number of campfires along the river systems, which were not
put out properly. The CFA is holding a bushfire planning workshop on 6 December at Anakie Hall at 7.30 pm. Street meetings are coming - Galatea Mine/Clarkes Roads 10 January, De Motts/Clarkes Roads 17 January - put this in your diary. Smoke detectors save lives –

Health News & More...
As we approach Christmas it is important to talk about what we do and eat over this period as it is often a time of over-indulgence! Because what we do and eat during the majority of the time is the most important, it is not necessary to deny yourself at Christmas time. However there are a few tips to not only care for your health but to maximise your enjoyment of the Season and stay well. 1. calculate and prepare only what you think you are going to need for the Christmas Day meals; try to keep leftovers to a minimum so the temptation to eat more than you need is restricted. 2. prepare dishes you don’t usually eat during the rest of the year but keep it simple; savour the flavours of herbs, spices & exotic dressings. 3. include berries and tropical fruits that are at their best in summer, to create the base of luscious desserts. 4. finally, don’t drink too much alcohol. Select wines and beers that are unique, special and perhaps more expensive so you will enjoy them more and perhaps limit your consumption! Have a Joyous Christmas!

Christmas bingo
Anakie bingo is a lot of fun! Each game includes a ‘liner’ winner, then the game continues for a ‘full house’. Afternoon tea is provided at the end. $6 buys you a card and with that you play ten games, including the last of the day which we call the armoguard - because you win so much cash, you will need an escort home. If you want to know how true that is, you had better come and find out. The final one for 2018 is on Wednesday 12, starting right on 1.30pm.

Turkey cooked in a brown paper bag 1 full turkey or buffet, large brown paper bag (like those we used for groceries, available from Lombard Paper Supplies, Ryrie Street). Canola oil, for spaying. Stuffing: 500 grams pork mince, fresh breadcrumbs (5 to 6 slices), mixed herbs, 2 eggs, 1 onion, finely chopped. Combine all ingredients and set aside. Defrost turkey, add prepared stuffing, putting some under the skin at the neck end. Left over stuffing can be rolled into a log and cooked in foil. Heat oven to 180, spray oil inside bag, put turkey in and seal with staples. Spray outside of bag (prevents bag from burning). Put the sealed bag onto a baking tray and put in oven. Cook turkey as per instructions on packaging or longer if needed. During last part of cooking, snip corner of bag to drain juices for gravy. I’ve been cooking this for over 30 years and it has been a great
success. An American lady taught me the method. Have a merry Xmas; I’ll be back next year. Pauline Lorenz
