Fun Day and

Early Out December 19th! Classroom teachers are

planning a little extra fun throughout the morning.

Classes will dismiss at

12:25pm.

Appleton City 4th and 5th Graders Complete Health Rocks! Appleton City Elementary students in the 4th and 5th grades took part in the Health Rocks! curriculum offered by the University of Missouri Extension and 4-H. Health Rocks! is a 4-H Healthy Living program with the goal of bringing youth knowledge to help reduce tobacco, alcohol, e-cigarette/vaping/smoking, and other drug use. Mr. Hunt’s and Mrs. Parsons’s classes were involved in decision-making development and resisting risky behaviors. Special guests during the program included Sergeant Lee Hilty and Deputy Havik, as well as other deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Havik demonstrated how he searches for drugs. Students were also allowed to take part in using the impairment googles so they could understand better how drugs and alcohol affects one’s brain and makes it difficult to do simple tasks. Students also discussed ways to say “NO” to those that might influence their decisions. Robyn Eckhoff, 4-H Youth Program Associate for Bates County, led this program during October and November. For more information about the Health Rocks! program or 4-H, contact the Bates County University Extension office at 660.679.4167.

Annual Thanksgiving “Manners”

Dinner A Great Success!

Students were joined by family and friends on November 25th for Thanksgiving “manners” lunch. Special thanks to: our local ministers, Tony Reynolds, and Larry Sorrells, for assisting

Mr. Payton in seating students and guests; Mrs. Bartz, Mrs. Matthes and Mrs. Bock for quickly replacing table settings between each classroom’s lunch period, keeping the “dining room” fresh and crisp for the next class; our wonderful kitchen staff

for preparing and serving this delicious meal; and, of course,

Mr. Payton for organizing the whole affair!

It was a polished and delightful event for all who attended!

School Closing Procedure

As winter draws near, the possibility of school closings due to inclement weather also arises. If you are in doubt as to whether school will be in session due to inclement weather, DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL! The School Reach program should send a message to the active phone number you provided the school. Also, the Student Handbook located in the front of the Student Plan-ner, which comes home with your child nightly, lists local television and radio stations on page 10 that will carry school closing news. If you do not see Appleton City R-II mentioned, there will be school that day.

Vacation

Vacation

Classes resume January 6th See you then!

On occasions when your child needs to be absent from school, a parent or guardian must send a note or call the elementary office at

660-476-2108 before 11:00 am on the day of the absence to explain the absence.

REMEMBER, “students who accumulate ten or more absences during the semester will receive an absenteeism referral to be

filed in the appropriate county juvenile court. At that juncture the situation becomes a legal matter. Any attendance pattern

the principal deems excessive or unusual may also be reported to the juvenile officer.” (Student Handbook).

Some items kids start running low

on this time of year include:

pencils, large erasers, dry erase

markers and glue. Fourth and Fifth

graders could also use colored

pencils and skinny markers.

Other stocking stuffer ideas are:

ear buds, play dough, puzzles,

games, books, art supplies, music,

toothbrushes, hats and gloves.

Be Prepared!

NO HAT , NO COAT, NO GLOVES, NO RECESS
