October is Bullying Prevention Month

October is recognized as a month to take a stand against bullying!!! On

Monday, October 5, 2015, students in Ware County wore blue to Step Up, Step

In, and Stomp Out Bullying. Students also signed pledge cards to say they

would “stomp out bullying”. We are so proud of our Ruskin students for

making this commitment!!!! Students in third, fourth, and fifth grade will

receive lessons on how to deal with bullying.

Flu Season is here.

Remember to wash your

hands thoroughly and sneeze

into your elbow to keep germs

away. Also, if your child has a

temperature of 100 degrees or

higher and/or is vomiting,

please keep them at home

until they are well.

Career Bridge Expo – Held October 2, 2015 at Memorial Stadium

All 5th Grade students attended the Career Bridge Expo at Memorial Stadium last

Friday. Students were able to talk to professionals from many different careers. They

also were able to participate in hands on experiences. The career expo ended with a

show from the Ware County Sheriff’s Department. They demonstrated what police

dogs can do to help officers.

Have you signed up

for Remind 101 text

messages?

Second Grade students from Mrs. Smith’s class enjoyed visiting the YMCA! They learned pool/water safety rules and how to

swim! Many of the students were terrified of water upon arrival, but by the end of the week were jumping into the deep end of the pool and swimming back to the edge. The YMCA swimming coaches were wonderful role models and were loved by all the

students! Thank you YMCA for providing this life saving opportunity!

Look who has a Positive attitude!

Ruskin Partners Up With Unison to Build Parent Relations Ruskin teachers, led by their principal Mrs. Kathy Stevens,

were welcomed to Garlington Community Center to present the school’s Title I Annual Meeting. Unison partnered with Ruskin Elementary to provide pizza, drinks, and door prizes for those who attended.

Mrs. Janna Jones, Ruskin's Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator, opened the meeting by explaining what it means to be a Title I school and how parents can get involved their child's education. Ms. Millie Thrift from Ware County Board of Education followed with information about the TeleHealth program and encouraged parents to sign up for the service. Mrs. Lisa Crosby, the school counselor, spoke about the importance of school attendance and urged parents to help their children to be present in school every day. Teachers from each grade-level were present to talk with parents and answer questions about curriculum and expectations.

in Sumdog’s

Okefenokee Math

Contest!

Ruskin Kindergarten students in Ms. Kerry Thrift's and Ms.

Casey Bazemore's class learned all about the letter G and

about school pride. After learning about the sound that the

letter "G" makes, they learned words that begin with the letter

such as go, green, gold, and gator. Afterwards, as a fun

culminating activity, students used their hands dipped in

green and gold paint to create the shape of a gator on their

paper.

In effort to reach as many parents as possible, Mrs. Stevens plans to hold Title I meetings in other locations within the school’s district this year as well. She relates her enthusiasm about these community meetings in her statement, "I am very thankful to all who came to this meeting and look forward to talking with parents at other community meetings coming up later this year."

Led by their teachers, students chanted, "G is for green,

gold, and go gators!"as they proudly showed off their

creations.
