December 2018

Dear Brothers, Families and Friends,

Warm Greetings and well wishes to all.

I realize that most are caught up in the spirit

of Christmas, shopping, planning parties and the like. All good things but let us be mindful of the fact that December is the beginning of Advent. A time where we prepare for the com-ing of the Christ Child. A season of waiting and longing of conversion and hope. Let us all prepare a peaceful place in our hearts wherein our savior can come and dwell.

I trust that all had a good Thanksgiving with family and friends. Our brother Knights and friends prepared and served Thanksgiv-ing dinner for 100 guests. I would like to give praise and special mention to Mark Tylec, Brook Mosness, Joe Tyler and Richard (doc) Ferreter for their dedication and extraordinary effort to this cause. A big thank you to all those who helped decorate and serve the meal. Many benefited from your labor of love and compas-sion. Well Done!

In early December a some of our Knights will be assembling with the nursing and corpo-rate staff at Florida Hospital DeLand to deliver Christmas Teddy Bears and stuffed animals.

These are given to sick or ill children who visit the hospital during the Christmas season. The Teddy Bears bring comfort to those children during what may be a frightening time for them. Special thanks to Ed Eberl who puts in a great effort and for chairing this worthwhile project and to all brothers that contributed. Another shining example of what The Knights Of Columbus does for our community.

Please stayed tuned to your emails from brother Peter Woods in regards to upcoming events and requested prayers.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Merry Christmas from my family to yours. May God shed his Grace upon each of you and remember “ Keep it simple”.

BlessingsMike GravesGrand Knight

Teddy Bears for Christmas

Make a difference in the life of a child that will be hospitalized during the Christmas Season. This is another project that our council supports without looking for praise or pay-back in any manner. The support of Brother Kights is greatly appreciated. Chaired by Brother Ed Eberel with the assistance of Brother Knight Richard Hewitt, this project that was presented to the council a few years back and it has grown with the help and support of brother knights. Donations are still needed and willl be accepted at Tuesdays council meeting.

“We cannot hope only to leave our children a bigger car, a bigger bank account. We must hope to give them a sense of what it means to be a loyal friend, a loving parent, a citizen who leaves his home, his neighborhood and town better than he found it.”

Insurance Agents Report

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE TALKING TO YOUR INSURANCE AGENT

Our agents can advise you on what insurance policies are best for you and your family — that’s why they’re so helpful. Still, you might be hesitant to sit down with your agent for various reasons. Here are a few things to keep in mind the next time you sit down with a K of C agent to alleviate all your fears.

1. What should a family expect when sitting down with a K of C agent? A family should expect to visit with a professional and intelligent representative of the Knights of Columbus who is going to bring a great deal of value to their family.

2. What would they discuss? The agents will start by discussing the history and current events of the Knights of Columbus, then transition into discussing what is going on in the member’s life, and then finally educate the mem ber on how we may be able to better their situation financially.

3. Why is this meeting important? A member’s life can change in an instant, and everyone should always be prepared for the un thinkable to happen so their family is okay.

4. Why should families meet regularly with their agent? Life is always changing. New jobs, new houses, etc. All these things change the financial needs of a family.

5. Why should families choose K of C Insurance? Personal service is a lost art in our world today. But our agents are not just business men, they are brother Knights and your well-being is their business 24/7. This type of service is so important when you need help the most.

Educational Corner

For those knights giving thought to being officers in the council, take this opportunity to review and learn the duties and responsibilities of the positions.

Did you know there are some “non officer” duties? (Soon to follow)

Inside & Outside Guards Duties The guards have similar responsibilities, but distinct differences. The outside guard tends to the outer door admitting visitors and members to the inner door. Once at the inner door, the inside guard checks to make sure that their membership cards are current.

Warden The warden is the “watchdog” for council property and degree paraphernalia, except the property of the financial secretary, treasurer and recorder. He is also responsible for setting up the council chambers for meetings and ceremonial work. During ceremonial exemplifications, he will appoint and supervise guards. Warden Specific Duties 1. Check identification cards of incoming brothers (No card - No admission) 2. Answer during roll call of officers 3. Set-up room (chairs - tables - podium) as per layout provided 4. Retrieve four (4) flags and bases from closet 5. Set-up an entrance table. Place the attendance book (retrieved from the closet) at the table. Verify incoming brothers sign the attendance book 6. Set-up jewels (retrieved from the closet) at entrance table. Make sure officers wear their assigned jewels 7. Set-up 50/50 tickets (retrieved from the closet) at entrance table. Verify one of the incoming guards sell the tickets 8. Purchase and chill refreshments 9. Verify 50/50 winner 10. After the meeting, retrieve the jewels from the officers and store them in the closet 11. After the meeting, store the flags and their bases in the closet

Pray For OthersWe often tell others we will pray for them. Please take the time and pray for those that need our prayers.

Sunshine CommitteePlease bring all your empty cans to the Knights of Colum-bus Hall. Be sure they are ALUMI-NUM ONLY. That is all that we can take at the hall.

There had been a request to save the poptops from bev-erage cans There will be a container place at the coun-cil hall for the collection of these tops.

Cell Phones are now being donated to an organization training service dogs to pick up phones for veter-ans.

NEW! NEW! NEW!Another item we are recy-cling is empty ink cartridg-es. Office Depot will give us $2.00 each for these car-tridges. That is signficantly more than what we have received in the past. They will also help fund sending the newsletter in color so those who do not have a computer can enjoy the same as those receiving a digital copy.
