These are the top 18 grossing films of 2014 according to IMDb, as we can see the first film is American Sniper which is an action/war film which had a very big budget of $58,800,000 and made $676,909 on its opening weekend. I can see a pattern that the highest grossing films are the ones with the biggest budgets. There are not that many thrillers or horrors in the top 20, but as we can see there is Gone Girl, Divergent and X-Men which are all thrillers. Even though there are not many thriller/horrors in the top grossing I think I still want to do this because I think it would be very interesting to make and as this is one of my favourite genre’s and I watch a lot I think that I could make it very scary and creative.

These are the top 5 horrors over a few years as well as the top 5 thrillers over in 2014. We can see that the top 5 grossing horrors are mainly paranormal horrors such as Insidious and The Conjuring which are both about possession and have paranormal investigators in them. The other 3 which are 28 Days Later, [REC] and The descent are about either zombies or certain abnormal things that hunt and kill people so we can see that the genre slasher horror isnt as popular anymore. On the 5 top thrillers we can see that Gone Girl is the top thriller which is about a psychopathic woman who plotted against her husband which I really enjoyed and would like to do something like that maybe as I thought that the film was really interesting. I would like to do a mixture between both of these so make something that is scary and makes my target audience want to see more as it will have a very interesting plot.
