Changes welcome & unwelcome are taking place at the Manteca Historical Society & Museum. To start with, we were three days away from our 28th Annual Gourmet Sampler at the Manteca Senior Center when we got the word that all events in Manteca were being shut down by the governor of California due to Covid19. So, we finished wrapping & tagging the last of the raffle prizes and they are now in storage just waiting for the day they can be used. What a big disappointment for the committee, members, and event sponsors. At this time, we do not know when we will be able to have a large crowd together to enjoy the food and all that goes with the event. I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and energy to make this a successful event. Special thanks to the following sponsors: SunnyValley Smoked Meats Inc., Manteca Development Company, Ray-mus Homes, J.R. Simplot Company, Hafer Properties, Golden Valley Credit Union, Clearwater Car Wash, Tuff Boy Leasing and Precision Automotive of Manteca. The museum holds two fundraisers each year and counts on this money for operating expenses. We do not receive any funds from the city, county, state, or federal governments so we will have to get creative! Memberships and Memorial donations will be very much depended upon until we can have a public gathering again. The hardest part will not being able to gather with museum members and friends!
During the time that we are closed to the public we will be un-dertaking several maintenance projects. The new solar panels are in place and we are now producing power! This project was scheduled and was paid for in April. Next to be upgraded is the security gate which is being brought up to current safety codes. R & S Erection Tri County Inc will make updates in May. The three roll-up doors on the Memorial Building were serviced and will be put on a regular maintenance schedule to keep them operating smoothly. Some displays inside the museum will be updat-ed and plans are being made to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Manteca Union High School. We have many pieces of memorabilia that have been donated over the years for the high school display but are will-ing to look at any other items that can be loaned for display or donated. Please call (209) 923-7915 if you have any items for consideration.
Until we open our doors again, we want everyone to stay safe and stay well. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Spreckels Sugar homes un-der construction in 1917 along Yosemite Ave. These homes were for manage-ment team members and were there for many years. Several were relocated to South Union Rd. & East Louise Ave. They are not hard to spot if you remem-ber what they look like.

MEMORIALS & HONOR’S PROGRAM
This is a very special way to remember those who have passed away, or to honor one for a special event, or tribute. All gifts directly benefit the museum. Gifts are typically tax deductible, and the names of those remembered are then inscribed in the ”Honor Roll Book”, which is on permanent display at the museum. Memorial Gift Forms are available at the museum docent desk, or by calling at (209) 825-3021 office (leave message) and we will be happy to mail a Memorials form(s) to you. Many thanks to past and present contributors for remembering friends and loved ones with a gift to the Manteca Mu-seum. The Manteca Historical Society & Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Thank you!
