Its unique design lends to success

The clear separation between the sensitive control electronic and the power electronic is crucial. In order to realize galvanic isolation and to ensure 100% noise immunity, the link between these two components is based on a Fiber Optic FSSB bus.

In addition, the communication topology between the control and servo system is designed for reliability: As in the IT world, where linking all decentralized computers to a single bus presents a major risk because a failure of a single subscriber somewhere in the “chain” would cause an interrupt for all par-ticipants, this risk is also valid in the automation world.

That’s why PACMotion allocates a separate bus for each axes group and promotes a mix of star-and-bus topology. All FSSB motion bus lines are synchronized via the innovative PCI bus technology of the PACSystems controller. This unique star-topology provides you with a significant competitive edge in machine uptime.

PACcore – Delivering higher throughput

PACMotion calculates and synchronizes all position commands, even with 40 servo-axes, in one millisecond. This capability is critical to deliver increased machine throughput for complex machines and provides a significant advantage over other motion controllers.

Whereas a single CPU would reach its limits due to a vast amount of motion calculations, PACMotion is based on PAC-core, a multi-core CPU architecture whereby the PAC CPU runs the application program while up to 10 dedicated co-CPUs run the motion algorithms. Therefore, the performance of the logic CPU is not reduced due to motion control, and the motion per-formance will never reach a limit—meeting your demands for higher production rates.

Integrated software and synchronization of all axes

However, while the CPU hardware is decentralized, the software such as logic, HMI and motion programs are central-ized and 100% integrated in a single user application program with a common tag basis—significantly reducing your engi-neering efforts.

The powerful PCI-bus allows data and command exchange in real time between the PAC CPU and the motion CPUs, in a way that all axes are synchronized with µs accuracy. The internal PCI-bus ensures better reliability because there is a sepa-rate motion bus for each axes group, which eliminates the chance of your machine coming to a halt due to a single bus error.

Maximizing Production FlexibilityInnovative Electronic Line Shaft Design

Dynamic Master / Slave Management

The implementation of the electronic line shaft feature set determines the product flexibility of your machine. PACMotion’s advanced Master/ Slave cascading technology offers something distinctive: Up to 40 axes can be the Master of any other axes, and up to 10 external encoders, motors or virtual axes can take over the Master function at the same time.

Without necessitating an interruption in your production, all Masters and Slaves can be determined in real time as well as engaged and disengaged—enabling dynamic axes synchroniza-tion management to increase machine uptime.

Decentralized High Speed I/O via Fiber Terminal Block

In addition to flexible servo axes, you need flexible Master syn-chronized I/Os for optimum product flexibility. To increase the speed of your machine, some PACMotion outputs are controlled in a µs time range and are linked up to 100 meters to a decen-tralized terminal block. Due to the transmission of these fast I/O signals via fiber optic, 100% noise immunity is assured.

This consistently reliable design for control is another piece of the puzzle to maximize the uptime of your production.
