Proud to be a part of Roseville Area Schools and Community Education
During the season of giving thanks, Roseville Area Senior Program (RASP) received much-appreciated gifts from local organizations and businesses.

RASP Has Many Reasons to Give Thanks During Thanksgiving Season
Delivering ThanksgivingKing of Kings Lutheran Church in Roseville prepared and delivered 94 meals to Meals on Wheels recipients on Thanksgiving Day. The meals included
“This is our 23rd year doing Meals on Wheels deliveries on Thanksgiving and Easter. We serve the Roseville, Mounds View, and North St. Paul-Maple-wood-Oakdale school districts’ programs,” said Greg Gogins of King Kings. With 35 delivery routes on Thanksgiving Day, there were more than 50 volunteers delivering and working “behind the scenes” to provide tasty meals for all Meals on Wheels folks.

“I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have the services of the (Roseville Area) Senior Program in my life. I rely on Meals on Wheels for my main meals and a nice visit, and the volunteer medical rides are so important for getting me to my doctor appointments.” -- One of the many joys of being a part of RASP, is receiving or hearing messages of thanks like this one from older adults that we serve.
We, in turn, have our thanks to convey to the many individuals, churches, community organizations, businesses, City of Roseville, dedicated RASP seniors and others for their support of the Roseville Area Senior Program. And, RASP would not exist the way we know it today without the steadfast support of Roseville Area Community Education and Roseville Area Schools. How wonderful it is to have a Senior Lounge for all to enjoy, where everyone is welcome, and facilities for educational
meetings, special events and activities. Bringing people together and focusing on community is at the core of our mission at RASP.
Isolation for older adults is an increasing problem in our country. We are working to address this concern by providing safety checks, transportation (Shuttle Bus & Volunteer Medical Rides), home assessments, resources and services coordination, and partnering with local and regional organizations to expand our outreach. RASP recently partnered with Home Instead to provide holiday gifts to seniors in need and to folks who
than 70 seniors received gifts and a friendly visit.
If you’ve supported RASP in the past, we sincerely appreciate your generosity and
mission of serving older adults in our communities. If you have not had the opportunity to contribute to RASP, give me a call (651-604-3522), go online at www.ISD623.org/RASP or mail your donation. It’s an investment that has no risk…and an abundance of rewards.
On behalf of all of us at RASP, we hope
with happiness and good health!
Blessings,

As the last glistening lights dim into the awe of winter, we now embark into the New Year. Our cherished memories
are reminded how precious life is and that each moment is a gift. Our religious traditions brought light into our festive holidays both joyfully and symbolically.
We light up our world to see things in a new perspective. Perhaps if we change our old ways of doing things it would make our life easier. For many older
both emotionally and physically. How do we change the way we have done things most of our lives? Who do we ask? Are there resources for us? How will we ever get through this? We have to take brave new steps to be assertive and make sure our voice is heard by family members and healthcare professionals. Many older adults are struggling with health issues,
ones. It is good to know that help is only a phone call away at RASP.
Our light also beams on those who are less fortunate. During winter especially, many older adults are faced with food insecurity. The aging of the senior population is unprecedented. One in 12 seniors in Minnesota face food insecurity and many are barely above the poverty level. Some people must decide whether to buy food or medication.
We don’t have to look too far to hear the voices of homeless people. They are now woven into the fabric of American society. Homeless people may be more visible than the older adults who keep to themselves and struggle alone. This invisible group may be living in homes or apartments facing issues that never existed in their past. They are embarrassed to ask family or friends for assistance. These people may be your neighbors or family members. Next time you’re in conversation with an older adult, ask them how they are and if they need some help.

Corner
I often tell Roseville older adults that we all have angels in our lives. It may be a neighbor, a handyman, Meals on Wheels driver, a volunteer who takes you to the doctor, a caring store clerk who makes sure you get what you need. It’s not about what you give but how you give. If we all take a little time to listen and think about those who are in real need and how we can help, our world will be a much happier and safer place to live.
Good wishes for a happy & healthy New Year.

Thank You!“I am pleased to report the
bond referendum passed! I am
proud to live and work in a commu-
nity that is committed to providing
high-quality facilities for its stu-
dents. This bond referendum gives
our school district a tremendous
opportunity to not only repair our
schools but expand and update
learning spaces. It’s the collective
support for our students and our
district’s future that makes me so
proud to call this school district my

future communication in which we
will seek community involvement in
the next steps of the facilities plan.”
— Superintendent Aldo Sicoli
Earlier this year, 1st grade students from Central Park Elementary drew imaginary monsters. Students from Roseville Area High School’s Art Club, drawing and painting classes, and AP studio art class used those drawings as inspiration for their own
and visited with RAHS students, viewed the “monster” art show in the media center, and participated in a drawing activity.. It was a wonderful learning opportunity for the younger and older students alike!
