An Idea forWorld Peace in 2011

It is amazing how far reaching the impact of having both a clear nervesystem and a healthy life style is, not only for you – but also for your family, your friends, your co-workers and - for that matter - the entire planet! Thefollowing conversation excited my family, my staff and myself so I wantedto make it available to you,my friends.

Dr. Childs: Does anyone know why we adjust people?

Ledges’ Staff: To help themhave a lifewithout nerve interference, becomehealthier and help them reach their full potential in life.

Dr.Childs: Wow! Excellent answer! So, you really get the idea that healthis an active journey rather than a state to arrive at, don’t you?

Ledges’ Staff: Absolutely!

Dr. Childs: Great! Now let’s assume that our patients see an increase intheir health. Let’s take, for example, aman in his mid thirties. Do you thinkthat as this happens for him that he will havemore energy or less energy?

Ledges’ Staff: Increased energy!

Dr. Childs: And because of that increased energy, do you think that hemight be able to be a better employee, husband and dad?

Ledges’ Staff: Yes.

Dr. Childs: And because of this man’s increased productivity, would hiscompany and family likely be better off?

Ledges’ Staff: Sure.

Dr. Childs: And knowing that he is personally helping his company andfamily achieve their goals more completely; would he probably feel betterabout himself or worse about himself?

Ledges’ Staff: Better!

Dr. Childs: And if he felt better about himself, would he likely feel moreat peace or less at peace?

Ledges’ Staff: More at peace.

Dr. Childs: And, with this man feeling more at peace with himself, wouldhis interactions with his wife, kids and co-workers each day likely bemorepeaceful or less peaceful?

Ledges’ Staff: More peaceful.

Dr. Childs: Ok, now with the communications directed at them in thispeacefulway, would his kids probably feel better about themselves orworseabout themselves?

Ledges’ Staff: Much better!

Dr. Childs: In what way would they feel better about themselves?

Ledges’ Staff: Well, they would have increased confidence and self-esteem.

Dr. Childs: That’s right! And with them growing up with a higher self-esteem, would they bemore likely or less likely to try things that can reallymake a difference in other people’s lives?

Ledges’ Staff: More likely!

Dr. Childs: And, having this higher self-esteem, would they tend to feelmore peaceful or less peaceful?

Ledges’ Staff: More peaceful!

Dr. Childs: So, if our practice was filled with people whose families wereexperiencing this same process of feeling better and more peaceful aboutthemselves because of the adjustments they receive and because of thehealthier lifestyle choices they make, would the effect on our communitybe one of creating less peace or more peace?

Ledges’ Staff: More peace, absolutely!

Dr. Childs: And if our whole country were filled with families who wereexperiencing this same thing, would our country be less peaceful or morepeaceful?

Ledges’ Staff: More peaceful.

Dr. Childs: Let’s think about this. What would the effect on the world beif every country were filled with people more fully expressing their healthand lives because they had clear nerve systems and healthy lifestyles?Would there bemore peace or less peace in the world?

Ledges’ Staff: More peace in the world.

Dr. Childs: Okay, I began this by askingyou why we adjust people, and you gaveme an awesome answer. But knowingwhat you know now, having gone throughwhat we just have, let me ask you again…why do we adjust people?

Ledges’ Staff: Wow…to increase worldpeace…to increaseWORLD PEACE!

“How important is it for each of us to behappy and healthy? How far does yourinfluence reach without your knowledge?Dr. B. J. Palmer once said, “You never know how far reaching somethingyoumay think, say or do today will affect the lives ofmillions tomorrow.”

Remember this the next time you find it difficult to make a healthylifestyle choice, but add just one word; “You never know how far reachingsomething youDON’T think, say or do todaywill affect the lives ofmillionstomorrow.” Remember, everything you do or don’t do starts a ripple effectthat spreads out across our world, and every single ripple counts! Decidetoday to make each and every one of your ripples count the way you wantthem to.”Kevin Donka, DC

I wish all of you and your families a happy and healthy 2011!!

FINANCIAL FOCUS: How Will New Tax Rules Affect You?Now that the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance

Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 is law, you’ll want tofamiliarize yourself with how this new legislation affects you— bothas a wage earner and an investor.

Consider these key parts of the new tax laws:• Income tax rates remain the same. Under previous legislation,

tax rates were scheduled to rise in 2011, but the new laws will keepall tax brackets the same.

•Payroll taxes reduced by two percent. Your share of the SocialSecurity payroll tax will drop from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent for2011. Consequently, you should see more take-home pay. . You maywant to consider investing at least part of this savings in anotherretirement account, such as an IRA.• Top capital gains and dividend tax rates stay at 15 percent. Thequestion of what would happen to capital gains and dividend taxeshas been of great interest to most investors. For the past severalyears, the highest capital gains and dividend tax rate has been 15percent. However, this 15 percent rate was scheduled to expire at theend of 2010; after that, dividends were to be taxed at one’s standardincome tax rate, while long-term capital gains would be taxed at 20percent for anyone above the 15 percent income tax bracket. But dueto the new legislation, the highest tax rate for both capital gains anddividends will stay at 15 percent for at least 2011 and 2012.

The capital gains and dividend tax provisions can have significanteffects on your investment decisions over the next two years. You nowstill have a strong incentive to follow a “buy-and-hold” investmentstrategy, under which you’d earn the favorable 15 percent rate oncapital gains from selling an appreciated asset, such as a stock, thatyou’ve held at least one year. And the 15 percent rate on dividend

taxes will continue to provide you with good reason to seek out thosestocks that regularly pay dividends; besides offering an advantageoustax rate, dividends, when reinvested can help build your ownershipstake in the dividend-paying investments. (Keep in mind, though, that companies are not obligated to pay dividends and can reduce ordiscontinue them at any time.)

• Estate tax exemption set at $5 million per person. Under previoustax laws, the estate tax was scheduled to be repealed entirely for2010 only, and then return in 2011, with an exclusion amount of $1million and a top tax rate of 55 percent. Under the new legislation, the exclusion amount for 2011 and 2012 is $5 million per person ($10million for married couples),with a top tax rate of 35 percent. The newlaw also includes a “portability” provision which can provide increasedflexibility in estate planning between married couples to attain full useof the $10 million exemption. You’ll need to see your tax and legaladvisors to determine what, if any, changes you’ll want to make to yourestate plans for the next couple of years as these laws will sunset atthe end of 2012.• Gift tax exemption set at $5 million per person. Under previous taxlaws, the gift tax exemption for lifetime gifts was $1 million. The newlegislation increases the lifetime gift tax exemption to $5 million perperson. You should work with your tax and legal professionals todetermine whether the new exemption amount provides opportunitiesfor you to consider during the next two years.

As always, changes in tax laws can have a big impact on yourfinancial future — so stay informed and take the steps you need tokeep progressing toward your goals.

LANSING TWP. - Theowner of Adams PlatingCo. was in serious condi-tion Tuesday after suffer-ing burns when his LansingTownship plant caught fireMonday morning.

Stephen Adams, 51, ofDimondale, was listed inserious condition at theUniversity of MichiganHospital in Ann Arbor, ac-cording to the hospital’sburn center staff.

Adams was the onlyperson in the single-story,5,400-square-foot buildingat 521 Rosemary St. whenit caught fire Monday morn-ing.

The site was used pri-marily for chrome, copperand nickel electroplating.

Rosemary Streetbetween Genesee and Sag-inaw streets was cloed ascrews cleaned up contami-nated water that collectedas firefighters doused theblaze.

The cause of the fireis still under investigation, but it’s most likely acci-

dental, said Lansing Town-ship fire Lt. Mike Kaloz.

Officials have not deter-mined a monetary damageamount for the building, which was a total loss.

“We still have crewsdown there,” Kaloz saidthis morning. There area couple of hotspots andthey are trying to minimizewater runoff.

He said the water runofffrom fighting the fire con-tains hazardous materials, but officials are still work-ing to determine the sever-ity.

Staff from the MichiganDepartment of Natural Re-sources and Environmentwere on site to evaluate,Kaloz said.

Air monitoring cameback clear, but officialsdon’t know how far thecontaminated waterleeched into the ground.

The plant may have hadseveral types of cyanide, chromium, sulfuric acid, nickel and other chemicalson site, Kaloz said.

The company is re-quired by law to providethe fire department with aninventory of any hazard-ous materials that may be

housed on site, he said. But just because it’s on

the list doesn’t mean it wason hand Monday morning,he added.

“We have done pre-planwalk throughs, surveys,”he said. “The most recentone being in September atthis facility and everythingas far as that goes appearsto be the way it was sup-posed to be.”

Kaloz said officials fromthe fire department, DNREand Ingham County emer-gency management wereto plan out the next 12 to24 hours.

“With hazardous materi-als on the ground, it couldbe a long drawn-out pro-cess,” he said

Sgt. Robert Ott, InghamCounty emergency man-agement program manag-er, would not release thelist of chemicals becausehe said some of the infor-mation is classified underHomeland Security.

“(For) the people thatlive right around there, there’s not an emergencyanymore,” he said. “There’ssome environmental clean-up that needs to be doneand we’re doing that.

Rod Sanford

“As long as they’re notin direct contact with thestuff that’s out there, theyhave nothing to worryabout.”

The one-acre site ispart of the federalSuperfund program forhighly contaminated sites, said Daria Devantier, unitchief for the Superfundsection of the DNRE.

Chromium-contaminated wastewaterwas discovered in anearby home’s basement

in 1980. Cleanup of arsenicand chromium from thesoil and groundwater tookseveral years, and stateand federal regulatorshave been monitoring thesite.

“Certainly there’s goingto be additional impactsfrom releases thatoccurred based on thefire,” Devantier said.

Air monitoring cameback clear, but officialsdon’t know how far thecontaminated water

leeched into the ground.Tammie Wahl, 30, lives

kitty-corner behind AdamsPlating. She said she’sslightly concerned aboutletting her dog in herbackyard following thefire, and was checkingTuesday morning to seeif any standing water wasleft in her yard.

“I feel like (officials)would probably come saysomething to us if weshould be concerned,” shesaid.
