Improve your life with dental implantsChances are, whether you’ve lost one toothor several, whether it’s a new situation orsomething you’ve lived with for years, you’ve never become fully accustomed to losing such a vital part of yourself.
Now you can have replacement teeth thatlook, feel and function like natural teeth.
Advances in dental science allow yourdentist to offer artificial tooth roots which fuse with the jawbone to form asecure foundation for tooth replacement.
This concept for oral rehabilitation wasdeveloped more than thirty-five years ago by a Swedish scientist and orthopedicsurgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Brånemark.
With his pioneering re s e a rch, Dr. Brånemarkopened the door to a lifetime of renewedcomfort and self-confidence for hundredsof thousands of individuals facing the f rustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.
Now, it can be your doorway to renewedconfidence and peace of mind.

What happens whenyou lose a tooth? If you’re missing one tooth or more, youmay find there are other things you miss.
You may miss your natural smile. Andwhen was the last time you crunched into an apple or sank your teeth into amouth-watering steak? Maybe you feelself-conscious about eating or speaking in public. Perhaps your remaining teethare shifting, or you suffer from musclestrain and headaches. Do you miss thecomfort you once experienced in familiarsituations at work, home, or with friends?
Naturally, the effects of tooth loss varyfrom person to person and depend onwhat has been lost. If you've lost a crown, you have lost the visible part of your tooth.
If you have lost the root as well, you havelost the unseen part of your tooth andindeed the most important part.
The root anchors the tooth to your jawbone providing support for the crown.Without the root, the bone around themissing tooth will gradually recede, remaining teeth will shift, and chewingwill become more difficult with time.
For those who have lost all of their teethin an upper or lower jaw, the long-termproblems are even greater. Because boneshrinks after tooth loss, nerves becomeexposed and dentures lack support. Loosefitting dentures compound problems a n dlead to sore gum tissue and additional pain.

Benefits of dental implantsImprove appearanceEach tooth is made up of a crown and aroot. The crown is visible while the unseenroot anchors the crown to the jawbone, providing stable support. Many optionsare available for replacing a crown, butonly dental implants can replace its root. If the root is not replaced, shrinkage of the jawbone occurs causing your face toappear older. Dental implants can stop this process.
Improve comfort and speechUnlike implants, dentures shift inside yourmouth causing mumbling, slurred speechand clicking noises. Gum irritation and painfrom exposed nerves are also associatedwith full or partial denture s. These pro b l e m scan be eliminated with implants which area n c h o re d s e c u rely to the jawbone. Implant-supported replacement teeth look, feel andfunction like natural teeth, enabling you to speak with comfort and confidence.
Eat what you wantTypical denture patients, with excellent fitting dentures, eat at 15 to 20 percent of the efficiency of people with naturalteeth. Dental implants can restore lostchewing efficiency. This allows you toonce again enjoy your favorite foods without thinking twice about it.
Smile with confidenceWith dental implants your teeth will besecure. You will no longer need to coveryour mouth when you laugh or smile.
Maintain healthy adjacent teethWith traditional practices, two teeth adjacent to a missing tooth must beground down to place a bridge. Dentalimplants often eliminate the need to modify healthy teeth, resulting in a more conservative and esthetic restoration.
Long term tooth replacementA false tooth without a root that is part ofa bridge is only temporary. When a root is missing, bone continues to shrink andcreates a visible defect under the falsetooth. Implants preserve bone and minimize additional dental work. Most Nobel Biocare patients can expectlife long replacement of their lost teeth.
Make an investmentDental implant treatment may initiallyseem more expensive than traditionaltreatment. However, the cost forlong-term success with dental implants is often equivalent to repetitive temporary t reatment solutions. Implants are indeed a wise investment.
Improve self esteemWith dental implants, you can regain nearly all the capabilities you had withyour natural teeth. Most implant patientsexperience renewed confidence. Yourimproved self-esteem will allow you to participate in activities you were oncerestricted from. You'll be able to enjoy life.

Replacement of a single toothIf you are missing a single tooth, you can replace it without having healthyneighboring teeth ground down to support a bridge. Nobel Biocare dentalimplant systems can replace both the lost crown and root of the natural tooth.
Replacement of several teethIf you have lost several teeth, replacingthem with dental implants is an excellentalternative. Your replacement teeth are notdependent on support from adjacent teeth,as is the case with bridges and partial dentures.
Replacement of full upper or lower jawIf you have lost all of your teeth in one ofyour jaws, a full denture may work for theshort term. But without tooth roots, thejawbone slowly melts, or shrinks, causingthe denture to lose its snug fit. This canlead to potential discomfort. A gradual lossof jawbone can also change the shape ofyour face, and your appearance.
Dental implants, fused to the jawbone, keep the bone healthy and your teethsecurely in place. Once implants havebeen placed in your jaw, they can b ere s t o red with fixed bridgework or o v e rd e n t u res. A fixed bridge is permanently secured to the implants, while removable overdentures are held in place by a bar and clip, or by one of many other attachments currently available.

Step by step treatmentExamination and PlanningFrom examination and planning throughrestoration, dental implant treatment usually takes place in the dentist’s office.
Placing Dental ImplantsIn an office procedure, the surgeonprepares the implant site and places theappropriate number of dental implants. Inmost cases, the patient is able to resumenormal activities the next day.
Bone HealingAfter the dental implants are placed, they are covered with gum tissue while the bone heals. During the next three to six months, the implants will bond withthe jawbone. Temporary crowns, bridges or overdentures are optional during thisbone healing period.
Connecting the PostOnce the dental implants have fused with thejawbone, a post may be attached to eachimplant. While the gum tissue is healing,t e m p o r a ry crowns, bridges or overd e n t u re sshould be in place. Your dentist may chooseto connect the post at the time of implant placement.
RestorationWhen the gum tissue has healed, therestorative dentist takes impressions to be used in designing the final dentalrestoration. Placing the final restoration on the implant is the last step in the pro c e s s .
