College of Fine Arts Patrons Society
The Millikin University College of Fine Arts Patrons Society was
created to benefit the over 600 Millikin student-artists participating in nearly
20 degree programs. Membership dues provide budget support and help create
special projects which might otherwise go unfunded. The society’s mission is to
bring together the university and individuals who believe in the promotion and
support of the fine and performing arts and the student-artist at Millikin
University. If you would like more information about the Patrons Society, you
can visit the web at: www.millikin.edu/patrons-society, or you may also

A love triangle threatens the union of two barren families. Illuminated by the Moon and tracked by Death, surging passions and rebellion are exposed in this classic Spanish drama. Will the bindings of fate be cut by love or by a tiny knife?
Kudos for Dance at Millikin
Congratulations to the students who attended the American College Dance Association’s East Central Regional Conference, held at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, March 4-8. Dance at Millikin was well-represented in numerous classes, performances, and auditions. Dancers performed pieces from this year’s Solstice concert, “Appearances” and “Go There,” in the adjudication and informal concerts, respectively. They received positive and helpful feedback from audiences, adjudicators, and colleagues throughout the region. In all, 29 schools attended. Most notably, Fabricio Seraphin’s self-choreographed solo, “Steps” was chosen by the adjudicators to be performed on the conference’s gala concert. To have a piece chosen for the gala upon the first trip to this organization’s concert is a huge accomplishment. The other schools
presented in the gala are large state universities with dance major programs, many of which have graduate programs in dance as well. Those schools were: Wayne State University, Millikin University, SUNY Fredonia, Grand Valley State University, The Ohio State University, Western Michigan University, National Taiwan University of Sport, University of Michigan, and Kent State University. An impressive group in which to be included! Thank you to Matt Albrecht, who also attended the conference, facilitating the technical needs and sharing the experience with student lighting designer, Therese O'Shaughnessy. As the students will attest during their presentation at the Celebrations of Scholarship, this was a life-changing experience for many of them. Students who attended, danced, performed, designed lights, carried costumes and set pieces, etc. are listed below. Please congratulate the following students on representing Millikin in a most extraordinary way!!! Keila Hamed-Ramos, Molly Will, Ariana Shelton, Maurice Randle, Ben Locke, Therese O’Shaughnessy, Shay Davis, Catherine Cable-Barber, Fabricio Seraphin, Darius Lee, Josh Miller, Patricia Bales, McKena Silva, Cassidy Burroughs, Emilio Canals

Rhythmic Circus
Feet Don’t Fail Me Now! Saturday, May 7, 7:30 pm
Kirkland Fine Arts Center
Tickets: $25-$40
“They bring the furious funk...and tap their way into everyone’s hearts!” - Star Tribune
Rhythmic Circus has quickly risen from an underground percussive-dance phenomenon to an innovative live performance company known for transforming their tap shoes into instruments of rhythm. Home grown hoofers from Minneapolis hit the road with a trunk
full of tap shoes, funky costumes and a big brass band, ready to burst onto the stage with FEET DON’T FAIL ME NOW!. “Heatbox” the human beatbox, joins the swinging’ seven-piece funk band to accompany each tap, shuffle, and stomp with a clang, riff and refrain. It’s easy to see why this troupe was a 2012 winner of the Edinburgh Festival “Spirit of the Fringe” Award. In this joyous parade of genre-hopping music and hard-hitting percussive dance, you’ll be jumping out of your seat and dancing to the beat!

CFA Performance Learning
In late April, the Department of Theatre and Dance
took nine BFA performance majors to Chicago for
an exciting professional development experience
that introduced them to some of the leading players
in the Chicago theatre, film and television market.
Meeting with representatives from The Goodman
Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Drury Lane
Theatre, Gray Talent, Claire Simon Casting, Shirley
Hamilton Talent, and Actors Equity Association as
well as individual directors and choreographers,
these students demonstrated a standard of
preparation and professionalism that has become
synonymous with the Department of Theatre and
Dance. This quintessential Performance Learning
experience is designed to help students make the
transition from their academic to professional lives
and they all made a tremendous first impression on this competitive market. The Department of Theatre and
Dance congratulates all nine of these students: Kristin Brintnall, Lexis Danca, Lexi DeSollar, Anna Dvorchak,
Shayla Rogers, Nathan Spees, Shalyn Welch, Molly Will, Emma (Rainey) Right who are pictured with Chicago
Director/Choreographer, Amber Mak.
Patrick Sutton, Director of the Gaiety School of Acting in
Dublin, Ireland, paid a visit to Millikin last month.
During his visit Mr. Sutton engaged students in an
insightful master class in acting technique as it pertains to
the works of Irish playwright, Samuel Beckett. Attended
by 30 students and faculty members, Mr. Sutton’s class
received very positive feedback from participants.
As part of Millikin’s continued efforts to increase study abroad
opportunities for students, Mr. Sutton’s visit also included
conversations with faculty regarding potential opportunities for
Theatre students interested in an international experience at the
Gaiety School, (Also known as the National Theatre School of
Ireland). Alumni of the Gaiety School of Acting include Olivia
Wilde, Aiden Turner, and Colin Farrell.
