Department of Bengali
Prof. Shruti Goswami has presented a paper on Debarati Mitra’s poetry in an
International Seminar organized by Rabindra Bharati University in 2018. She
has also edited a biography of poet-composer Rajanikanta Sen in August 2018.
Apart from that, she also scripted a dialogue between the female characters of
Tagore’s plays for a programme in AIR broadcast on May 2018.
This is our fifth academic year in the college since 2012. Students who have
graduated have joined PG courses and started research activities like M.Phil.,
PhD in different universities and colleges. Some of them have started
professional activities in media houses. Two of them have achieved 1st and 2nd
position in the PG examination in Jadavpur University. Two students have
qualified the NET examination in 2018.
The department has organized two one-day seminars in this academic session.
On 12th February2018, Prof. Sanjay Mukhopadhyay delivered a speech on
‘Literature and Cinema’ and on 29th September 2018, Mr. Subha Prasad Nandi
Majumdar presented a session on ‘Literature and Music’. Prof. Rajib Choudhury
from the main campus and Prof Subrata Sinha from Raghabpur Campus
arranged a press visit for the 3rd year students. They spent a whole day attending
a workshop and watching several activities related to printing and publishing at
the Jadavpur University Press on 21st September 2018.
Prof. Rajib Choudhury edited a collection of short stories, namely ‘Nabam
Taranga’ by Nabarun Bhattacharya. His article on the narrative-time of Bankim
Chandra’s novels was also published in a journal. He was selected as a BOS
member of the Bengali Department, Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission. Prof.
Choudhury delivered the keynote address in a seminar organized by Bangla
Chotogalpo Prasar Academy.

Prof. Tapas Saha has attended an Orientation Programme at Burdwan University
from 15th February 2018 to 14th March 2018 and a Refresher Course at
University of Calcutta from 10th September 2018 to 2nd November 2018. He
has published an article on Bijan Bhattacharyya in a Seminar Proceeding from
Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira College. He served as a co-ordinator
member of a social outreach and school student-teacher awareness programme:
Swami Vivekananda Sammelan at Antpur, Hooghly during February-March
2018.
