LIVORNO, ITALY – 11 JUNE 2013FLORENCE FOUR SEASONS OVERNIGHTActivity Level: ModerateDAY 1 Florence is renowned as the capital of the Renaissance, and therefore the birthplace of some of the most significant artistic, literary and scientific developments in history.

Our tour begins in Livorno, where you will meet your English-speaking tour leader and depart to Florence by AC deluxe minibus.

You will be joined by an additional tour leader in Florence, who will escort you to Galleria dell’Accademia, home to Michelangelo’s David.

After David, you will visit the Duomo, the city’s main cathedral. The current building was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (c. 1245-1302) and completed in 1436 with Filippo Brunelleschi’s domed cupola, the most distinguishing feature of the city’s skyline and symbol of Florentine pride.

We will then visit Piazza della Signoria, which has remained Florence’s political center since the Middle Ages and also houses The Uffizi, the city’s famed museum. Here, you will view the open-air statue gallery Loggia dei Lanzi, the exterior of Palazzo Vecchio, Ammannati’s Fountain of Neptune and Giambologna’s equestrian statue of Cosimo I de Medici.

On the way to Basilica Santa Croce, we will encounter the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s oldest bridge that is famous for its multi-stories and shops.

Basilica Santa Croce’s Gothic construction was overseen by a slew of Florentine architects, including Brunelleschi, Vasari, Giotto and Donatello. Many of Italy’s most important Renaissance masters are buried here, including Michelangelo, Galileo, Ghiberti, Machiavelli and Rossini.

Following the tour of Santa Croce, you will enjoy lunch at your leisure before checking in at The Four

Seasons Hotel. Housed in an art-filled Renaissance palazzo and former convent, The Four Seasons is an enchanted sanctuary hidden within the city, just a stroll away from Florence’s major sites. One of the hotel’s defining hallmarks is Giardino della Gherardesca, a centuries-old private park exclusively for hotel guests.

The hotel offers 116 unique sun-filled guest rooms and suites, many of which feature original frescoes, friezes and hand-painted sculptured reliefs – blending Renaissance artistry with high-tech comfort. Accommodations are warmed by warm Tuscan yellows and greens that artfully frame the views of the neighbouring streets, palazzos, gardens and Giardino della Gherardesca. Each room is equipped with a flat-screen satellite television, CD and DVD player, built-in safe, high-speed Wi-Fi, clock radio with iPod docking station, minibar and two telephones. Ensuite marble bathrooms boast a European soaking tub, separate glass-enclosed shower, bidet, thick terry robes, large vanity, separate WC, hair dryer and fine toiletries.

Spa: The only hotel in the heart of Florence with an on-site spa, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze offers 8,511 square feet of relaxing lounges, outdoor pools, whirlpools and luxuriously appointed treatment rooms. It is the only spa in the world that features the lavish products of Officina Profumo – Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, a noted Florentine pharmacy that dates back to the 13th century.

Dining: Imaginative menus incorporate the authentic flavours of traditional Tuscan cooking and the freshest local ingredients into a modern interpretation of Italian cuisine – all presented with Four Seasons flair in the hotel’s restaurant, bars and 24-hour In-Room Dining service. Homemade items such as specialty bread, pastas, pastries, ice cream and chocolate are prepared daily, offered alongside an extensive wine list that pays homage to Tuscany’s many noble wines.

After check-in, enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure before dinner at Enoteca Pinchiorri, whose renowned Tuscan cuisine has captivated diners for the past 35 years and continues to be a staple of Florence’s fine dining scene.

Return to the hotel after dinner.

DAY 2 After meeting your tour leader, you will be transferred to Florence’s train station, where you will take a first class 1 ½ hour Eurostar train to Rome. Upon arrival, you will be escorted by minivan to Civitavecchia, where you will meet the Silver Spirit. (Book by 3/10/13)
