These changes are in turn … disrupting the delicate, systemic balances that make up the biosphere…and even changing the face of the Earth itself.

Page 5: DepEd K to 12 Education for Sustainable Development

Buth this may require a different world view and new thinking

“No problems can be solved fromthe same consciousness that created it. We have to learn tosee the world anew”.(Albert Einstein)

Page 6: DepEd K to 12 Education for Sustainable Development

Does all these require a new type of Education?

What comes to your mind when we speak of: Globalization?... Sustainable Development?...K to 12 Curriculum?

Sustainability will…

• Require us to reorient our thinking and how we see the world (including each other)…

… and thus , reorienting education to incorporate sustainability mindsets, values and principles at its core.

Page 12: DepEd K to 12 Education for Sustainable Development

Sustainability requires shifting from

Transmissive to Transformative Learning

From passing on a set of body of knowledge such as in a complete textbook (transmissive) to…

…To recognition that we are all learners learning together and moving into the unknown, to invent and discover new knowledge that contribute to sustainable practices (transformative).

Questions for Reflection

• What can be done at the classroom level to promote transformative ESD education?

• In my personal capacity, what can I do to enhance my own capabilities to deliver transformative education?

Page 28: DepEd K to 12 Education for Sustainable Development

“The transition from “business as usual” to engaging in

“a transformative education process” is a matter of choice. With the right vision, planning, collaboration and preparation around ideas that empower pupils and teachers alike to act for positive environmental and social change… By being open to diverse learning strategies, by appreciating the importance of multi-stakeholders partnerships, by working together to solve problems-we gain new ideas, fresh insights, inspiration and a knowledge that a sustainable future is a reality for all of us.”

We just need to choose!
