® MD-1 Micro Dermabrasion Unit Aide Memoire Dear Customer, Further to a small number of Derma SK4 Machines being returned to us with alleged faults, and after subsequent inspection established that all units returned were ‘user’ issues arising from the non compliance with user manual guidelines, We have for your convenience attached some guidance points for reference, when a user issue is encountered. Please consult these points prior to contacting your area representative or the head office. We will as always be available to answer your questions. However, most common user issues can be solved by following the relevant function steps listed below. We hope this will be of use in identifying any issues which may occur during the normal operation of your SK4 MD-1 Micro Dermabrasion machine. Foreword Nature of operation Your ‘MD-1’ (Micro Dermabrasion machine) is a professional treatment machine designed for removal of the outer dermal layers, using vacuum pressure for the both delivery of the crystals used to exfoliate, and the collection of the waste dermis/crystals removed during the treatment. The principle of operation for your MD-1 machine is no different from any machine currently available on the market today, which is used for the same purpose. As such, your MD-1 is a ‘mechanically’ operated machine using a pressurised vacuum system. The machine by its very nature (having ‘moving’ parts) will require ongoing inspection and cleaning maintenance to ensure continued trouble free operation. To this end, it should be noted that the higher degree of maintenance/cleaning done by the user/operator, will in turn, increase the continued performance and longevity of operation for your MD-1 machine. NB: - Before using your MD-1 machine ensure you have fully read your user manual supplied with the machine, and that you are fully conversant with its correct operation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the use of the MD1 machine, please contact your sales agent or trainer prior to use.

MD-1 Micro Dermabrasion Unit

Aide Memoire

Dear Customer, Further to a small number of Derma SK4 Machines being returned to us with alleged faults, and after subsequent inspection established that all units returned were ‘user’ issues arising from the non compliance with user manual guidelines, We have for your convenience attached some guidance points for reference, when a user issue is encountered. Please consult these points prior to contacting your area representative or the head office. We will as always be available to answer your questions. User maintenance Failure to regularly inspect and maintain (clean) the machine will manifest issues that may prevent ‘good running’ of your MD-1 machine. By following the steps below, you will prevent most user issues from arising. The hoses used on the system should be regularly inspected to ensure that no visible damage is present. This includes inspecting the ‘hose-to-connector’ fittings to ensure an air tight seal between them. The handset should be inspected before using to ensure that the black ‘O ring’ is not damaged and that it is creating an airtight seal between the handset and the disposable clear nozzles. The pipe connections to the handset should be a secure fit ensuring no loss of vacuum pressure, please note that tightening of the brass connectors may periodically be necessary. The delivery (White) vessel should be emptied on a daily basis and any unused crystals should be returned to a sterile airtight container to prevent any moisture absorption, as this may cause the forming of crystal ‘clusters’ and may lead to clogging of the vacuum system or handset. The container cap should be regularly dusted to ensure correct fitment of the lid. Whilst cleaning the container, specific attention should be paid to the silicon seal used in the lid of the container. This seal should be clean and seated correctly within the cap to maintain an airtight seal, and prevent loss of pressure to the vacuum system. Please note that this vessel is a ‘consumable’ item and will need to be regularly replaced, dependant on usage and correct maintenance procedures being followed. The collection (Green) vessel should be emptied on a regular basis in between usage. Care should be taken to prevent the level of collected waste reaching the level of the ‘filter’ within the vessel. It is recommended that this vessel is emptied when it becomes half full, to prevent damaging the inline ‘filter’ within the vessel. Should the waste level reach the ‘filter’ this will increase the speed at which the filter becomes clogged with crystal and waste dust. If left unchecked this will increase the rate at which the vessel needs to be replaced or may result in damage to the vacuum pump and evidence to this effect will lead to invalidation of your warranty. Please note that this vessel is a ‘consumable’ item and will need to be regularly replaced, dependant on usage and correct maintenance procedures being followed. The secondary inline filtration unit (item No1 as pictured in your manual) is contained within the clear glass housing and regular visible inspections should be made to ensure no traces of crystal or dust are present. If evidence of crystals or dust is found, this is a clear indication that correct level of filtration from the filter in the collection (green) vessel is not being maintained. This would indicate a partial or full failure on the collection vessel filter has occurred due to a lack of, or incorrect maintenance (cleaning) procedures being followed. Special care should be taken to ensure this filter is maintained correctly to prevent any particulates entering the mechanical system, and thereby preventing damage or failure of the main pump unit. It should be noted that any damage or failure of the main pumping system due to incorrect use, or lack of maintenance of the machine, will result in invalidation of the manufacturer’s warranty and may prove expensive for you to rectify.

Trouble Shooting Unit does not switch on 1) Ensure the unit is plugged in and the power supply is both present and switched on. (Verify by using another appliance from the same socket) 2) Ensure fuse in mains plug is working and replace if necessary with a working fuse of the same amperage rating. 3) Ensure the secondary fuse located in the power lead housing (see photo of ‘right panel’ item 3 in your user manual) and confirm that this fuse is OK. Should this fused have blown, a spare is located directly behind it within the fuse housing itself. 4) After steps 1-3 have been followed, but no power to the unit is still present. Remove the power lead and replace with a power lead know to work in another appliance. If your machine still has no power after following the above steps, you should immediately contact Cosmetronic or your appointed sales agent for further advice. Insufficient crystals being delivered Should a lack of crystal delivery occur during use, this is normally indicative of a drop in vacuum pressure which may be caused by a number of reasons. 1) Check that the vacuum out level on the main front panel is correctly adjusted, and has not been inadvertently ‘turned down’ by the previous user. Turn up the vacuum pressure dial as required. 2) Ensure that sufficient crystals are available for delivery from the ‘white’ delivery canister. 3) Check that there is no visible damage or disconnections to the vacuum pipe system, making sure that all connectors are secure and not losing pressure. 4) Check physically to ensure that the lids to both canisters are present, undamaged and securely fastened and that the seals in each lid are seated correctly to prevent a loss of vacuum pressure to the system. 5) Ensure that the collection (green) canister is not overly full of waste crystals. If the container is over half full, empty the container and retry the system vacuum pressure. 6) Check the filter in the collection (green) canister is sufficiently free from waste crystals/dust and is allowing a free flow of air. If the filter is impaired you may replace it with a new canister as advised in your user manual. Please note that the life expectancy of the waste canister (filter) may be extended by proactively cleaning with either a brush or by vacuuming on a regular basis. However this will only extend its service life proportionately to your cleaning regime, and it will need to be replaced periodically dependant on use & maintenance. Too many crystals being delivered Should an excess of crystals be arriving at the nozzle during use, this is normally indicative of the vacuum power dial being set too high by a previous user and this should checked prior to looking for alternative reasons for the issue. The most common cause for ‘over delivery’ of crystals is a lack of vacuum pressure within the pumping system although technically, this is actually a case of ‘under collection’ rather than over delivery of crystals. If the vacuum pressure of the system is impaired, the system fails to have enough vacuum to collect the deposited crystals and return them to the ‘waste’ canister. If this is not the case, the following checks should be made.

If the container is over half full, empty the canister and retry the system vacuum pressure. If the canister is full, this will prevent further waste crystal product from being stored. This will result in the waste crystals ‘back flowing’ to the handset nozzle and may result in the product discharging over the client’s face/treatment area. 4) Check the filter in the collection (green) canister is sufficiently free from waste crystals/dust and is allowing a free flow of air. If the filter is impaired you may replace it with a new canister as advised in your user manual. 6) Check the filter in the collection (green) canister is sufficiently free from waste crystals/dust and is allowing a free flow of air. Summary As explained in the foreword, your Derma SK4® machine works by use of a ‘healthy’ pressurised vacuum system. Most issues that are encountered will be caused by one or more of the above explanations. By following the above guidelines, in conjunction with your MD-1user manual, 99% of issues can be resolved at source. Should however, after following the above steps you still have an unresolved issue, do not hesitate to contact your local Derma SK4® representative, Cosmetronic head office or your appointed ‘country’ sales agent for further advice.
