Design Proposal Jason Atkinson Industry Trust project (YCN) The current situation within copyright is that there is very little respect for it outside of the film industries environment. Along side this there has been anti-copyright belief among audiences formed from bad press by copyright being used as the reason for lawsuits and the fact people see piracy as a victimless crime. The goal of my scheme is to give copyright a positive view for the film, TV and video industry celebrating originality and audiovisual works by using creative ideas to help and provoke people into thinking positive about copyright. This will be done but opening up conversation for debate on the topic letting the projects audience reach their own conclusion. There are examples of events and projects that try and promote copyright such as trusts “you make the movies” and “moments worth paying for” and intellectual property offices “Wallace & Gromit present a world of cracking ideas exhibition” The audience for this project is males aged 16 to 25 years old who are seen as “riskies” or “dabblers” in downloading or file sharing who have only dabbled in it a little or are thinking about accessing illegal software. The main way I wish to open up a debate for the audience is by peer to peer sharing via face book as this particular concept has been seen as a bad idea as this is one of the ways copyright is being forgotten about however by doing this I want not only to spark debate with the audience but also to show copyright owners that peer to peer sharing isn’t a bad idea. A example being the face books business section which allows a page to be created for people to comment on and debate on this will also be drive by a film video ad and poster campaign which link to face book. In conclusion the actions I wish to take should promote copyright in a way that speaks to a target audience and open up a discussion in using new media as the platform for speech.
