Destination Imagination Parent Information
What is ?
Destination Imagination (DI) is an educational activity in which student teams solve open-ended
challenges that enable students to learn and experience the creative process while fostering
their creativity, curiosity and courage. Teams work together to develop these solutions and
present their solutions at tournaments.

Can Participate?
The Destination Imagination (DI) program is available for ANY
kindergarten through 12th grade student attending a Fort Bend ISD
School.
FBISD Levels of Participation:•Rising Stars! ®: Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade
• Elementary Level: 3rd-5th grade (No students in Kinder – 2nd)
• Middle Level: 6th - 8th Grade (No student born before June 15, 2004)
• Secondary Level: 9th-12th Grade (No student born before June 15, 1999)

CREATE AND PRESENT A STORY THAT COMBINES ELEMENTS OF BOTH FICTION AND NONFICTION.
DESIGN AND BUILD A TECHNICAL DEVICE.

DESIGN AND BUILD AN AIRCRAFT THAT TAKES OFF, FLIES, AND LANDS.

RESEARCH THE HUMAN BODY AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT AFFECT THE HUMAN BODY.
CREATE AND PRESENT A STORY ABOUT A MEDICAL MYSTERY THAT AFFECTS A HUMAN CHARACTER.

DESIGN AND BUILD A STRUCTURE THAT CAN SUPPORT WEIGHT WITHOUT BREAKING.
TEST THE STRUCTURE BY PLACING WEIGHTS AND THEN REMOVING THEM.
The Challenges: Points of InterestCREATE AND PRESENT A STORY THAT INTEGRATES RESEARCH OF A TEAM-SELECTED GAME.
CREATE AND PRESENT A GAME GIZMO THAT CAUSES AN ACTION OR EVENT TO OCCUR.

RESEARCH HISTORICAL FIGURES FOUND ON COINS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.
CREATE AND PRESENT AN IMPROVISATIONAL SKIT THAT INCLUDES THE HISTORICAL FIGURES IN A TALE.

IDENTIFY, DESIGN, AND CARRY OUT A PROJECT THAT ADDRESSES A NEED IN A REAL COMMUNITY.
CREATE AND THEATRICALLY PRESENT A STORY THAT BUILDS SUSPENSE ABOUT CHARACTERS WHO ATTEMPT AN ESCAPE.
The Challenges: IC requires teams to engage in quick, creative and critical thinking.
ICs are performance-based, task-based, or a combination of the two. Teams have to produce a solution in a period of just five to eight minutes.

Team Manager Qualifications:
•Can spell DI
• Interested in having a tremendous impact on a great group of kiddos
•Has an updated FBISD Criminal History Background Check on file
Team Manager Support:
•Fort Bend ISD provides ongoing support for all team managers – You are not ALONE in this process.
• Team Manager meetings are held with topics relevant to where your teams should be in the process.

New Team Manager Training (open to all)• October 6th
• 9:30 am – 12:30 pm• Progressive High School
Team Manager Support Meetings (open to all) • November 8• January 24• 6 pm – 7:30 pm (QVMS Library)
Want to Join DI?
Team FormationDo you have your own team?• Select a team manager.
• Can be a parent• Must have criminal background check.
• Gather your neighbors, friends, and families to form teams of 4 – 7.
• Students can attend different FBISD schools. • Team manager completes the online registration for the
team. • Ensure EACH parent/guardian completes the DI Parent
Acknowledgements Form. • Turn all forms into Campus Sponsor. • Team Number will be issued via email no later than October
6th.

Do you need help finding a team?
• Students complete individual registration form.
• Consider being a TEAM MANAGER!
• Campus Sponsor builds balanced teams with students from the campus if team managers are available.
• Team Manager is provided a list of team members.
• After receiving list of team members from Campus Sponsor, team manager will complete online registration for the team.
• Team Number will be issued via email no later than October 6th.

• Information required when registering a team:• TM Full Name and Information• Challenge Level• TM Full Name, Grade, and Birthdate
• Destination Imagination has three levels of tournaments.
