Develop The Moving Mind-Set by Lana Jane Fox
Relocation is always tough, tiring and stressful, even if you are moving to
your dream home in your dream city. Besides being a demanding,
time-consuming, stressful process, it is also a state of mind. You may
live in your new apartment for a month now, but your mind may still be in your
old house. This could create further tension and unresolved negative
emotions. In order to embrace the change that is coming your way, enjoy the
moving process as much as possible and make it easy for everyone you must
develop the so called moving mind-set.
Developing the moving mind-set is always easier said than done. If you are
moving often you might make friends only to lose most of them later and you
might invest your energy to make a house feel like home, only to empty it
later like none of your efforts and best attempts were ever present.
This could be frustrating, but it is also true that a lot of us live the life of the
"trailing spouse" and a certain mind-set is required if you want to survive each
time you have to pack your life in boxes.
First of all, treat the whole thing as it is something to celebrate. We are
sure every change is good and comes our way to test, teach and make us
stronger. It might also be associated with saying "goodbye" far more often
than you wish, but this too doesn't mean the whole thing should't be
celebrated in style. Here are things most people like to do before they
relocate:
1. Plan a Farewell party. Even though such parties are also associated with
stress, surely you would want to see your favourite people and family
together in the house you called "home" for so long.
2. Visit favourite places. Take photographs and order your favourite meals
at your favourite restaurant. When you plan your move, don't leave this to the
last possible minute. You might have something unexpected then, or for some
reason you might not be able to go to that dinner. You will regret it later. Plan
ahead and go before it is too late. There are places we associate with a lot of
pleasant memories and if you skip visiting them, you might leave feeling you
have an unfinished business there.
3. Manage your time. In order to stress less and develop a moving mind-set,
you should effectively manage your time and allow plenty of time for things
that require it like giving your landlord written notification, or scheduling house
appraisals. Booking professional removal services might also be requested,
even though there are removalists in Melbourne, who work on short notice,
weekends, holidays and odd hours.
4. Shed no tears and make the most out of it. Live out your fantasies.
Move and pretend you are like a tourist who explores the world. When you
arrive at the new place and settle, go sightseeing with the family, find new fun
things to do. Meet new people and make new friends. Everyone knows that a
new friend doesn't replace an old one, but how many know that a new friend
might be there to actually fulfil a need we might have right now. Making new
friends, means making new memories and going through things together.
