In the months of November and December 2017, BBA students of DHA Suffa University (DSU) initiated a five-week literacy elevation program, titled “DSU Community Academy”, for the children of underprivileged primary schools located at neighboring slums of DHA Karachi. 20 children from Qayyumabad were inducted in the literacy elevation program that was structured to run three days a week in DSU classrooms. Books and stationary items, along with pick and drop service, were provided by DSU as a CSR initiative. The children were taught basics of Mathematics, English and Urdu. In addition, special attention was given to character-building and thought-of-the-day activities. Hygiene was particularly emphasized throughout the course of the program. In an attempt to increase general knowledge and inculcate a nationalist spirit in the children, the national anthem was taught along with information on provinces, father of the nation, religion and languages. The CSR team intends to conduct this program on a regular basis in collaboration with DSU’s students and faculty members.

DHA Suffa University (DSU) celebrated World Kindness Day, coinciding with World Orphans Day, on November 13, 2017. A group of BBA students visited Anjuman Hayat-ul-Islam, one of the oldest orphanages in Pakistan to spend the day and celebrate the birthday of children living in the orphanage. Students planned a birthday surprise that included fun activities and goody bags for all children. Pie in the Sky, the official food sponsor of the event, generously donated two huge cakes for the children.
