1.0 INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY
A 3-hole, 254.2 m (834 ft.) program of BQ core drilling was completed on
the Ashley gold property of Petromet Resources Limited during December of
1984. The property is located in the Matachewan gold area of northeast
ern Ontario. Drilling was carried out by R-Y Developments Ltd. of
Kirkland Lake, Ontario with MPH Consulting Limited of Toronto providing
overall project management.
The initial target was the west, down-dip extension of the Ashley Main
Vein. Old reports also referred to interesting gold values in 1930's
drilling (4 in. of 1.46 oz Au/ton and 3.25 ft. of 0.22 oz Au/ton) in
veins other than the Main Vein in the immediate drill area.
The Ashley Main Vein yielded some 50,000 ounces of gold while the Ashley
Mine was in operation from 1932 to 1937.
The 1984 Petromet drilling has revealed the presence of a hitherto unsus
pected zone of shattering, brecciation, alteration and mineralization
mainly in basalt but also in felsic prophyry west of the previous work
ings. Mineralization consists of quartz and carbonate veins, veinlets
and fillings + potash feldspar, epidote, pyrite, magnetite, galena and
telluride. Host basalts are variably hematized, carbonatized and silici
fied. Hematite also occurs along thin slips. The potassic/syenite
material often occurs as rims or selveges on quartz veinlets. This fea
ture was characteristic of the Ashley Main and No. l veins and suggests
some relationship of mineralization to the abundant syenite porphyry
bodies present in the general area. Pyrite occurs in amounts of up to
155S generally as fine disseminations. Galena and telluride are very rare
but again these minerals were key indicators in the known gold-bearing
veins and their presence may be significant.
The mineralized zone is weakly auriferous. Hole l returned a 3 m (10
ft.) core length which averaged 0.03 oz Au/ton. Hole 3 returned a 1.5 m
l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l
(5 ft.) section which assayed 0.04 oz Au/ton. These two intersections,
if they represent the same zone, would define a structure which dips west
at 45-50", similar to the main Ashley vein (section l at rear).
This overall breccia zone is concluded to be significant in that it
indicates potential for a more attractive style of gold mineralization,
i.e. one involving better widths and tonnages, relative to the narrow
vein zones typical of the known Ashley mineralization.
More work will be required to determine the form, extent and grade of
this new zone. Recommendations are presented for program of geophysical
surveying and further diamond drilling.

2.0 HISTORY
The Ashley Mine, found initially by surface prospecting, produced 50,099
ounces of gold during the period 1932 to 1937 from a narrow, variably
faulted, west-dipping quartz vein zone. Average vein grade was 0.32 oz
Au/ton.
Various attempts to reactivate the property in the intervening period
prior to its aquisition by Petromet Resources Limited in 1981 proved
fruitless.
Petromet has carried out programs of linecutting, geological mapping,
trenching, sampling and VLF-EM and magnetic surveying previous to the
present campaign. The results of this work have been presented in vari
ous MPH reports to Petromet and the reader is referred to these documents
for details of location, exploration results, etc.

3.0 DIAMOND DRILLING PROGRAM - 1984
Appendix l presents logs and sections for holes A-84-1 to 3 along with
assay certificates. Map l at rear shows hole locations relative to the
Ashley workings.
Drilling is summarized as follows:
Hole Collar Azimith Dip Length (m)
A-84-1 2+OON, 2+75W 900 94.5A-84-2 1+OON, 3+OOW 90" 68.3A-84-3 2+OON, 3+25W 090" -50 0 91.4
Hole A-84-1 was the first hole into the new zone. The hole collared in
variably fractured and mineralized basalt and continued in this to 58.2 m
where it passed into porphyry. The section from 7.6 m to 58.2 m contain
ed variable quartz-carbonate pyrite mineralization and was split and
assayed in entirety. Minor galena and telluride were identified as
indicated. The only assay of any consequence was a 3 m section from
30.5 to 33.5 m which averaged .03 oz Au/ton.
The underlying porphyry in hole l varied from a syenitic to a quartzo
feldspathic (granitic) rock. A 3 m quartz-carbonate breccia zone near
the basalt/ porphyry contact did not return any values of interest.
Hole A-84-2, 100 m south of the above, was entirely in feldspar j^ quartz
porphyry.
Hole A-84-3 was angled under hole l to further investigate the brecciated
mineralized zone in that hole. After passing through several porphyry
dikes, the above zone was intersected from 62.7 to approximately 87.0 m.
lll Mineralization was less well developed in this hole although a 1.5 m sec
tion near a porphyry dike contact returned 0.04 oz Au/ton.

4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The amount of porphyry material encountered in the drilling was somewhat
unexpected. There may be a relatively large porphyry body in this area.
The shattering and brecciation in the basalts and subsequent mineraliza
tion may be related to porphyry intrusion. This is of interest in that
much of the gold ore in Matachewan camp was hosted by red pyritic syenite
porphyry. Although gold values are low to this point, the mineralized
brecciated zone investigated by holes l and 3 is concluded to be signifi
cant in that it suggests possibilities for a more attractive style of
gold deposit, i.e. larger tonnage, bigger widths, relative to the narrow
quartz veins typical of the Ashley. Although the style of mineralization
is different, there are marked similarities in the alteration - minerali
zation assemblages between typical Ashley mineralization and the new
zone.
A sample taken from a narrow quartz vein during a 1982 trenching program
immediately north of holes l and 3 returned the non-economic but highly
anomalous value of 0.05 oz Au/ton. This may represent the north fringe
of the mineralized system encountered in holes l and 3?
Further work should be carried out to investigate the form, extent and
grade of this overall zone as follows:
a) carry out brief studies of the alteration - mineralization
assemblages via 1-2 polished thin sections of core.
b) extend existing picket lines at 50 m intervals from 3+OON to
2+OOS to 6+OOW across zone.
c) carry out detailed magnetic-gradiometric surveying in an attempt
to better define structures and lithological boundaries.
d) carry out orientation IP surveying with various spreads on line
2+OON over the zone. There may be sufficient pyrite to produce
an IP effect. If so, IP surveying should then be completed
between lines 3+OON to 2+OOS or more if an anomaly persists.
l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l
- 7 -
The cost for all of the above, depending on the amount of IP surveying,
will be $l5,000-20,000 inclusive of all drafting, reporting, etc.
An additional drilling campaign will then be required to further evaluate
the zone, recommendation for which will be made on completion of the
above work and an assessment of the results relative to our exploration
models for the property.
Respectfully submitted
