General Characteristics Individuals in the Social Communications Specialist role works closely with IS&T leadership and are responsible for the development and execution of IS&T’s social communication strategy. These roles align communications with the Institute’s IT and business strategies; develop communication guidelines; develop tools, templates and processes; identify audiences; determine appropriate communication channels including social media; produce content and communications; and serve as editor.

The Social Communications Specialist roles will develop and expand IS&T’s social media communities and online outreach efforts with creative written and visual content; and identify and extract subjective information from social media. They will design and implement social content strategies to increase engagement with users across selected social platforms, creating relevant social content, blogging, and expanding community participation. Other responsibilities include designing and administering a series of customer and employee satisfaction surveys and developing content for the departmental website and Service Catalog. They use different feedback mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of social media and communication programs and they report to leadership for action planning. In addition, they incorporate feedback into the development of communication processes and social media programs as directed. Individuals serving in this role require the ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. They demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and are able to leverage social media and develop innovative approaches and ideas in a manner that gets others' attention.
