14. SERVICING – the user should not attempt to service the appliance beyond that described in the user operation instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.

GETTING STARTED

DAB/FM AERIALBefore using your radio for DAB or FM reception, pull out the telescopic antenna. You may need to adjust the position of the telescopic antenna for maxing signal strength.

CONNECTING POWERBefore connecting the power, check that the mains voltage on the rating plate of the AC adaptor is the same as the voltage in your area.Plug the DC cord from the AC adaptor into the DC jack on the back of the unit.Plug the AC adaptor into the wall socket and switch the mains power on.

The unit is now ready for use.NOTE:-The AC adaptor may become warm during operation-this is normal.When first connected to the power, the clock and calendar display will show “zeros”.

SETTING THE CLOCKThe clock on your radio is automatically set when first used from the time signal broadcast with DAB radio stations.If a DAB station is not available, the clock may be set manually via the MENU system. (Please refer to the page 49).

POWER CONTROL

STANDBY CONTROLTo turn the radio on:Press the STANDBY button on the top panel.

The display will light and the radio will switch on.To turn the radio off:Press the STANDBY button on the top panel briefly.

The radio will switch off. The clock will continue to run whilst mains power is connected.

INTIAL SCAN When your radio is switched on for the first time the scanning display will be shown while the scanning process takes place:

The radio scans all usable stations (full scan) and stores them alphanumerically -1 Radio, 2 Radio, AA Radio, AB Radio…The initial scan will take a few minutes. After the scan, the clock will be set and the radio will play the name of the first station in the sequence. To browse foranother station, refer to the next section.

BROWSING FOR A STATION

To browse for another DAB station from the front panel controls: Press the or button.

<Station list> will be displayed. Press the or button to browse the station list. Press the SELECT button to select the station displayed.

After s short delay, the radio will tune to the station

ADJUSTING THE VOLUME

To adjust the volume from the front panel controls:Press the VOLUME + or - button to increase or decrease the volume level.When the volume is adjusted the display will change to show the current volume setting on a bargraph.

DAB SCANNING

RE-SCANNING FOR DAB STATIONSWhen first used, your radio scanned the DAB band for available stations. The station services found were then stored in your system's memory.You can re-scan the band at any time if you move to a different area or just to refresh the stored list of available stations.To scan for DAB stations manually:Select the DAB band.

Press the SCAN button on the front panel.The scanning process will take a few minutes. The number of services found during the scan will be shown at the right side of the display.After the scan, the radio will re-tune to the first station in the station list to play if it is available.To select this station, you can continue to browse for another station as described on the previous page.

DAB DISPLAY MODES

DISPLAY MODE OPTIONSThe bottom line of the display can be switched to show different items of information that may be transmitted with a DAB station.Choosing the information display:Press the INFO. button on the front panel repeatedly to change the information displayed while playing a DAB radio station.The full range of display options are shown below. Some stations may not broadcast all of these options.

DLS (Dynamic Label Segment): This is a scrolling message giving real-time information-song titles, news headlines, etc.

PROGRAMME TYPE: This describes the style of the programme being broadcast.

MULTIPLEX NAME: DAB Digital radio stations are broadcast in multiplexes. Each multiplex is a bundle of radio stations transmitted in a signal frequency. There are national and local multiplexes; local ones contain stations specific to your area. This option displays the name of the multiplex name that contains the station you are listening to

SIGNAL STRENGTH: This setting will display a signal strength bargraph. The longer the bargraph, the stronger the signal. Setting the display to show signal strength is useful when setting up the aerial for the strongest signal.

TIME: Time and date are updated by broadcasted information.

MULTIPLEX NUMBER/FREQ: This option will display the multiplex number and frequency that contains the station you are listening to.

BIT RATE: DAB allows broadcasters to vary the BIT RATE (or the amount by which an audio signal can be compressed) depending on the type of broadcast. This enables the amount of stations on a multiplex to be maximized. Speech and News are often broadcast at a lower Bit Rate; music needs a higher Bit Rate for good fidelity.

SELECTING A SOURCE

SOUND SOURCESYou can choose to listen to following sources-DAB radioFM radioCD playAux source(when connected via the AUX jack on the left bottom of front panel.

Selecting a source:Press the FUNCTION button on the front panel repeatedly to scroll through the available

sources.

LISTENING TO FM RADIO

Your radio can also receive FM band radio stations and display RDS data ( where broadcast ).To change to the FM bandPress the FUNCTION button to select FM mode.

To auto-tune to FM stationsPress the SCAN button to search for the next station in the band.

The radio will search and the tuning frequency will be displayed whilst searching.When a usable station is detected the radio will stop tuning and play the station. If RDS data is present, the station name and scrolling radio text will be displayed. If RDS data is not present, the tuned frequency will be displayed.

STATION PRESETS

To store any preset 1-10• Tune to the station you want to store as a preset.• Press and hold the PRESET button.“Preset Store” will be displayed.• Press the or button repeatedly to find the preset number you want to store.For each preset number the preset station currently stored will be displayed or “Empty” if none is stored.• Press the SELECT button to confirm if you want to store the station in the displayed preset number.To recall any preset 1-10• Press the PRESET button briefly.• Press the or button repeatedly to find the preset number you want to play.• Press the SELECT button briefly to play the preset .

To enter the DAB Settings Menu from the top panel controls:• Set to DAB mode.• Press the MENU button.To scroll through available options, press the or Boutton repeatedly. To choose an option from the menu, Press the SELECT button.

MORE DETAIL OF THE DAB SETTINGS MENU OPTIONS:FULL SCAN: Select Full Scan to re-scan the entire DAB band and refresh the station list.MANUAL TUNING: Manual tuning enables you to search the band manually, stepping through the multiplex numbers to check if any have usable signal strength.Manual tuning is not necessary in normal operation where scanning will have automatically established a station list of all useable stations.PRUNE: If your station list includes stations that you can no longer receive (you may have moved to a different area), you can select the 'Prune' option to remove any stations that can no longer be received from the Station List.

SET TIME/DATE: This main option enables the clock to be set manually if these is no available DAB transmission.To set the time and data manually:• When unit on FM/ AUX IN/CD/DAB mode, press MENU button, then press or button, go to “Set Time/Date”, press Select button, then press or button, go to

“Set date” will appear on the display.• Press the or to set the day, then press the SELECT button to confirm.• Press the or to set the month, then press the SELECT button to confirm.• Press the or to set the year, then press the SELECT button to confirm.

FACTORY RESET: This option will restore all settings to 'factory original'. All clock, station lists and stored preset Stations will be cleared. After factory reset the radio will automatically re-scan the DAB band.

SW VERSION: This option will display the version number of the control software currently installed in your radio.This will be helpful to a technician who is servicing the radio.

FM SETTINGS MENU

FM SETTINGS MENUThere are also some menu settings that are specific to FMradio operation. These settings may be changed through the Settings Menu.To enter the FM Settings Menu:• Set to FM mode.• Press the MENU button on the front panel.

A map of the menu is shown below. To scroll through available options, press the or button repeatedly.

To choose an option from the menu, press the SELECT button.

MORE DETAIL OF THE FM SETTINGS MENU OPTIONS SCAN SETTING: With this menu option you can set theScanning sensitivity of the FM radio to two different levels- “Strong stations only” or “All stations” .Setting to “Strong stations only” will exclude weaker stations resulting in a quicker scan. FM DISPLAY MODE OPTIONSThe bottom line of the display can be switched to show different items of information that may be transmitted with an FM station.To change the display mode:Press the INFO. button on the front panel repeatedly to change the information displayed while playing an FM radio station.The full range of display options are shown below. Some stations may not broadcast all of these options.

LISTENING TO A CD

LOADING DISCS

To select CD operation:• Press the FUNCTION button to select CD mode.

Loading a disc:• Press the OPEN/CLOSE area at the front corner of the disc lid on top of the unit. The lid will open slowly.• Gently place a disc on the center spindle with the label side upward.• Once in place, press the center of the disc until it clicks into place on the turntable.• Close the lid and press the OPEN/CLOSE area until it latches shut. After a few seconds the disc will read and the disc data.

Unloading a disc:• If the disc is playing, pres the STOP button and wait a few seconds for the disc to stop.• Press the OPEN/CLOSE area at the front of the CD lid, the lid will open slowly.Grip the disc at the sides and lift it out of the disc compartment.

CD PLAYBACK, PAUSE:• Load the CD.• Press the / SCAN button to start the CD playing• When a CD IS playing, pressing the / SCAN button at any time will pause playback. Press the button again to re-start play.

Selecting tracks:• Press the or button briefly to select the previous or next track from the disc.NOTE: The first press of the button will replay the current track.

Direct access track selection:• Press a number button to select a track number (or two numbers if the number is greater than• Press the / SCAN button to skip to your chosen track.

Fast search:• To fast search through a track, press and hold the or button.

The player will fast search through the track at high speed in the chosen direction until the button is released.

CD REPEAT AND RANDOM

REPEAT AND SHUFFLE FUNCTIONSYou can repeat a single track, the whole disc or select random to play the tracks in a random sequence.To set a repeat or random mode:Press the PLAY MODE button to cycle through the options of “REP” (repeat current track), “REP ALL” (Repeat the disc) or “RAND” (play tracks in a random sequence).The Repeat, Repeat All or Random symbol will be displayed.

PROGRAM PLAY

REPEAT AND SHUFFLE FUNCTIONSWhen playing a CD, you can store a random sequence of up tp 20 tracks to play in your preferred order.To store a CD program:• In CD Stop mode, press the PROG. button. • Press or button to select the track number for the first track you want to program. • Press the PROG. button to store this track into the program memory. The track will be store an the program counter will increase to “PROG02”.• Repeat the above two steps to store the next and subsequent tracks in your program sequence.• When you have finished entering all tracks in your program, press the / SCAN button to start the program playing. HEADPHONESTo play music from an iPod or Personal Audio playerConnected to the AUX IN jack-• Press the FUNCTION button to select AUX mode.• Set the volume level on your Personal Audio player up To abut half level.• Set the volume on your audio system to the level you require. If the volume will not set high enough you may need to increase the volume setting on the player.

NOTE: - It is not possible to navigate the menu system of an iPod or other personal audio player with the audio system if it is connected via the AUX IN jack.

There is a headphone output jack on the top panel of the radio. If headphones are connected to this socket for private listening, the speakers will cut out automatically.
