Sometimespalaeontologistshavetousetheircreativeimaginationalongsidetheirhugescientificknowledgeaboutfossils.Dinosaurfootprinttrackwaysshowusevidenceofwheredinosaursusedtotravelandtheyoftengiveuscluesastohowtheyusedtobehavewitheachother.Inthisactivity,youcanimpressyourfriendsby

creatingyourowndinosaurtrackwaymysteryandtellagruesomestoryofadinosaurfight!

WHAT YOU DO

Step 1

Askanadulttocutyourpotatoinhalfandcarveoutyourchosendinosaurfootprintbasedonthetemplatesprovided.Threetoeddinosaurfootprintsweretraditionallymeateatingpredators(likeMegalosaurs)whereasroundfootprintsweremoregentleplanteatingdinosaurs(likeSauropods).

Step 2

Whilstyouradultiscuttingoutthefootprints,tryandsketchoutthetypeofmysterythatyouwouldlikeyourfriendstosolveonaseparatesheetofpaper.Willonedinosaurbechasingtheother?Willtherebeabigfightscene?

Nowdiponeofyourpotatostampsinthebrownpaint,andpressontothesugarpaper.Whenyoutakeitawayyoushouldhaveadinosaurfootprint!Nowverycarefully,seeifyoucancreateadinosaurtrackwaybasedonthemysteryyouwanttocreate.
