The Advanced Diploma in Education, which specialises in special needs education, is geared towards preparing teachers to assist students experiencing barriers to learning and development. This qualification equips teachers to provide a support system that enables special needs students to access equal educational opportunities through enabling mechanisms, procedures and practices and providing the necessary support on different levels. Teachers who would like to develop in this field are encouraged to register for this qualification.
This qualification will be offered on a distance learning approach and is certified by the North-West University (NWU).The NWU prides itself in providing high quality and stimulating professional education and is committed to graduating highly competent professionals capable of real innovation within the education sector.

The programme is tailored for year-round access using the open distance learning approach where students slot into an academic year and there are no closing dates for applications. Exam centres are available throughout the country and graduation ceremonies are held at selected venues in key areas. The programmes are conducted utilising various modes of delivery which include paper-based learning and online support. We offer excellent support structures through our Call Centre and SMS communication.
Students may apply at any time of the year. However, to write the May exams, they must be registered before end February and to be able to write the November exams, they must be registered before 30 June of the same year.
To speed up final registration, the following documents must be supplied with your Application Form:• Certified copy of your ID• Salary advice not older than two months• Certified copies of all previous qualifications (degree or diploma certificates)• Certified copy of all academic records• Marriage certificate (if surname on ID differs from that on qualification certificates)• SAQA evaluation of qualification (if qualification was obtained in a foreign country)• A study permit (for foreign students)
• Former Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE Level 6)• Former four year Higher Diploma in Education • A former Further Diploma in Education (FDE)• Advanced Certificate in Teaching (ACT) • Four-year BEd degree• A general first degree/diploma plus an Advanced Diploma in Teaching or a former PGCE• Former Higher Diploma in Education (Postgraduate)
ADE is offered over a minimum of one year with a maximum duration of three years.
