The second exercise has three parts, with point values indicated below:
For this week’s reading, we were presented with a number of ways of describing the sorts of conflicted experiences that Plato gives voice to in his discussion of Leontius (Republic 439e-440a, Grube/Reeve p. 115), and that Kahneman and others identify in their discussions of dual-processing. Observe your actions for a day with this terminology in mind. For each of the following distinctions, describe an example from your own behavior using the vocabulary provided. (Each description should be 2-3 sentences.) (1) A case involving a conflict among Reason, Spirit and Appetite. (This might be a
three-way conflict, or a case where two of the forces are aligned against the third.) (1 point)
(2) A case involving a conflict between System I and System II. (1 point)
(3) A case involving a conflict between Belief and Alief. (1 point)
