Why? To ensure our struggling students and those with hidden disabilities

(learning differences) are given the supports they need in order to succeed

In reference to students with formal accommodations: because it’s the law. Like Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADA is civil rights legislation for individuals with disabilities. Unlike Section 504, the ADA applies to almost every entity in the United States, regardless of whether it receives federal funds; churches and private clubs are the only two entities that are exempt from the ADA. Therefore, private schools that are not associated with a religious organization have to comply with the provisions of the ADA; these schools may be exempt from Section 504 because they do not receive federal funds.

FVS Accommodations Students Fun fact #1: Not all students with accommodations are or have been enrolled

in the Academic Skills Instructional Program (ASIP).

Fun fact #2: Not all students enrolled in ASIP have accommodations.

All returning juniors and seniors have accommodations through College Board (meaning: they’re also set for their AP exams). All seniors have accommodations through both College Board and ACT. Three returning sophomores have accommodations through College Board. In January 2015, those new and returning sophomores and juniors with recent testing will request accommodations of College Board (and also ACT if they’re juniors).

Identifying Your Accommodations Students On your roster(s), look at the little icon to the right of a

student’s name. Click the icon and a Confidential Learning Profile will appear,

which includes: Academic strengths Academic weaknesses Classroom supports Testing accommodations

Accommodations Examples In-class examples:

Preferential seating Books on tape/CD/online Computer use for note-taking Spelling amnesty (except on final drafts)

Testing examples: 50% extended time on assessments Separate setting Small group Computer use Calculator

Scheduling Accommodations1. On the top right hand corner of your gmail, click the white side of the little Rubik’s Cube icon.

Scheduling Accommodations2. Inside the Cube, click “Calendar”.

Scheduling Accommodations3. Ensure you’re on the correct calendar.

Scheduling Accommodations4. Click “CREATE” to schedule an assessment.

Scheduling Accommodations5. At least two days prior to an assessment, schedule as

indicated:

Scheduling Accommodations6. When you click “SAVE”, this pop-up appears. Simply click

“Send”.

Scheduling Accommodations7. Your assessment will appear on the Accommodations

Scheduling calendar, Dorothy and Jennifer will be invited to the party, and we will reply to you via email to discuss next steps.
