Director of Sailing, Duxbury Yacht Club.
The Junior Sailing Committee at the Duxbury Yacht Club, Duxbury MA, is seeking to
hire a Director of Sailing for the summer of 2015.
The Director of Sailing at the DYC participates in developing and overseeing a quality Junior
program intended to teach sailing in a fun, safe and nurturing environment which both follows US
Sailing guidelines in a creative and thoughtful way and works within the unique Duxbury Yacht Club
environment. The Director shall meet the professionalism and leadership standards of the DYC as well
as relate well to children, learn all of their names, be a role model and mentor to both kids and
instructors in the Corinthian spirit of sailing. The Director shall strive for excellence in all areas of the
program including encouraging timid sailors to grow confidence in the boat and learn as well as
encourage those that like racing to practice, learn the rules and compete with integrity and spirit.
The Director of Sailing is a 13 week position from June 15 through September 7 to oversee our 9 week
sailing program, Jr Regatta and pre/post seasonal duties. The DYC serves 70-90 kids ages 8-16 who learn
and compete in Optimists and 420s.
Responsibilities Include:
Hire, direct and supervise 3 coaches (Opti, 420 and Novice) and several instructors.
Directly communicate with parents and junior sailors
Oversee and participate in curriculum development
Oversee and participate in fleet maintenance
Oversee and participate with on and off the water teaching and mentoring
Coordinate the DYC Jr Regatta
While the Director of Sailing is primarily a junior focused position, the DYC will provide encouragement
and opportunity to grow an adult program and be compensated as such, in addition.
The Ideal Candidate will:
Have Jr Sailing Instruction and program management experience
Relate well, understand and enjoy working with children
Relate well and have excellent communication skills with parents
Be US Sailing Level 1 certified at a minimum, Level 2 or 3 preferred
Be knowledgeable of all aspects of Sailing, Regattas, Etiquette, and Corinthian Sportsmanship
Have a complimentary lifestyle that would enable potential long tenure in the position.
Position Type, Compensation:
13 week – full time employee of the Duxbury Yacht Club, competitive pay, and the Director of Sailing,
spouse and children will have access to all Duxbury Yacht Club facilities.
