ABSTRACT

The art collective Plastic Crowds is carrying out a project for September 2013, the pro-ject will consist in dislocating a concert.The musicians that will take part in this con-cert will be distributed in different parts of Europe and will play an original piece com-posed for this event.By playing the piece simultaneously, the sound will be issued to a single point where it will be mixed and will be send to spaces located throughout Europe, including Lon-don, Paris, The Hague, Oviedo, Madrid, Bar-celona and Trento, as well as many others yet to be determined, and to the website www.dislocatedconcert.com .

THE IDEA

When we refer to a ‘concert’ we think of a group of musicians playing together and this is primarily because music is a dialogue, an universal language.The ways we communicate have experien-ced an unprecedented development in the last three decades as we now live on the In-ternet. No matter where you live or where you work, you can be connected in real time with everyone.This is how Plastic Crowds, an art collective whose members live in different countries, works.This leads us to ask the following questions:Why don’t we do this with music?Why is it not possible to do a concert with musicians of various nationalities without re-quiring physical presence?This is the reason for this proposal. We want to ‘disrupt’ a concert to explore the qualities and possibilities of the medium -internet- applied to music.

SCOPE

This project will be shown to the public in two ways, first via streaming, which can be followed from anywhere via internet and se-condly in those authorized areas that will play the concert in real time.Vigo, Santiago, A Coruña, Madrid, Oviedo, Zaragoza, London, Barcelona, Paris and Trento are some of the cities that, at the moment, will take part in the project. These spaces will receive the instructions and the advertising that will be visible to the public from Vigo (home place).Still, this event will have a minimum capacity of 2000 people who will come to the cen-tres where the streaming is rendered.

HOW WILL WE DO THIS?

Since we want to work on the issue of ex-change and dialogue, the work will consist of five composers from different nationalities. The piece will last from 30 to 45 minutes.Each of these musicians will play their part in the score at the same time but without hearing the rest, this will work with the help of a synchronized countdown. A metrono-me will be the only reference to each of the musicians.The video will be streamed from the authori-sed places all along Europe and will be also available live in the internet.

We would love your collaboration to carry out this project.To be able to broadcast in your area we need a room and projection equipment for live streaming. This would consist of audio equipment, internet connection and a pro-jector.The idea is to reach as many people as pos-sible to spread this contemporary music project. LOGO

The logo for this project is born from the concept of joining different places together. We put a dot in a map in each city and town where the collaborators of this project are based. Then we linked them through lines. The stone effect was made by taking this 2D stone and converting it in 3D by using the program 3D Studio Max. We wanted it to look minimal and clean, the grey scales provide a big cleanliness appea-rance to the identity that contrasts with the wild style of the photography campaign.

Avenir is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1988 and re-leased by Linotype GmbH, now a subsidiary of Monotype Corporation.The word avenir is French for “future”. The font takes inspiration from the early geome-tric sans-serif typefaces Erbar (1922), de-signed by Jakob Erbar, and Futura (1927), designed by Paul Renner. Frutiger intended Avenir to be a more organic, humanist inter-pretation of these highly geometric types. While similarities can be seen with Futura, the two-story lowercase a is more like Erbar, and also recalls Frutiger’s earlier namesake typeface, Frutiger.1

ADVERTISEMENT CAMPAIGN

These images are inspired by the aweso-mely style of Georges Méliès’ early movies, by Jérôme Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights and by Salvador Dalí’s surreal pho-tographies. The concept was born from decomposing instruments through surreal futuristic photo-graphs. We painted in white color the whole body of our model MinHo as we wanted the final result to be black and white (Despite that we took the pictures in color to give a better effect). The photoshop editing could allow us to give the skin a sculpture-like fee-ling as well as we could create a surreal futu-ristic style that would create a big contrast with the logo and the rest of the identity in general.The final images are six: The Guitar, The Pia-no, The Violin, The Drum, The Triangle and The Harp.
