Invite family members, neighbors, co-workers, and community members to participate in a worthwhile charitable service program. After they witness the good the Knights can do, remind them of the council’s upcoming Church Recruitment Drive(s). Held during the weekends of October 13-14 and 20-21, these drives should explain the benefits of joining the Knights of Columbus. After the drive, remember the follow-up phase. Assign prospect names to recruiting teams for personal follow-up visits. Within 48 hours , each prospect who completed a Membership Document (#100) or expressed interest in joining should have had a personal follow-up from a Knight. For complete information on how to conduct a successful church drive, consult the Membership Recruitment and Retention Manual (#10237) or visit kofc.org/drive . CAMPAIGN FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES One of the most popular and successful programs conducted by local councils benefits people with intellectual disabilities by collecting funds outside stores and on street corners. In appreciation, the donor is offered a piece of candy, often a Tootsie Roll®. The high visibility of this program has led to the campaign being referred to as the “Tootsie Roll® Drive.” While the nickname is understandable, it is misleading since the Knights of Columbus has no official tie to Tootsie Rolls or their manufacturer. Many councils participate in the same fundraising drive, but distribute other items. References to this program should highlight the positive aspects of the fundraising and not advertise candy. If councils in your district conduct this program, it is recommended that it be promoted as the “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities.” NEXT WEBINAR The next webinar on “Recruiting Younger Members” will take place on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
